My article in the Herning Folkeblad has brought many interesting voicemails to Mads´ cell phone. We assumed everyone found Mads´ number in the Herning phone directory and called him to find me.
Of course, I want a job (which is more than 2 hours a week to teach English) and of course, I need a salary, but we decided together I will not just accept the first offer, unless it is the right on for us. Especially because my schedule at the Language school takes many hours every week. I am in classes for fifteen hours a week and I have about 2 hours of homework each evening (and I am discovering how much Danish I DON´T know). We are crossing our fingers (and legs and arms, too!) for me to find a job which will coordinate with my Danish because learning Danish is the most important thing for my future in Denmark.
Telefonsvar/Voicemail #1= Job Tilbud/Offer #1:
To teach English for 5 hours a week through May to a class with 22 adults who were high school dropouts with many personal problems and little motivation. The job sounded perfect for me, but I did not feel I could accept it because if I find a more full time job soon, I would not be able to finish with them through May, and this group NEEDS the same teacher for the entire time...
Telefonsvar/Voicemail #2 = Job Tilbud/Offer #2:
A 75 year old man, with a homebusiness as a distributor of Royal Copenhagen China wanted me to work with him, selling his inventory to people in America, since I can speak English and he cannot.
Telefonsvar/Voicemail #3 = Job Tilbud/Offer #3:
A woman called on Wednesday and told me about her desire to learn more English because she works in Denmark for an American called "Forever", a manufacturer of ALOE plant products (such as lotion, food and makeup). I agreed to drive to her house on Friday (today) to talk with her about English lessons. I arrived in Ilskov, about 15 km. from Herning, og learned I was there to hear a sales presentation for me to become a salesperson for Forever, which is a "marketing network" (or as I call them...a "pyramid"). They offered to help me make my own "company" within Forever, while means i would be selling their prodcuts and finding other people to sell their products also. (And IF I work with them, she offered to help me with my new company in exchange for me teaching her English.) But don´t worry.. I said NO... so I will not be contacting you all about buying some ALOE products!
Måske Mads næste telefonsvar skal være bedre...
Maybe Mads´ next voicemail will be better...
Sorry for all the crazy voicemails. Hopefully something will turn up. My mom recently had an article in the paper and with this she was contacted by a center (basically her dream job) and is now working for them. So it can happen! :)
I guess all the crazy people don't live in Texas - there are a few in Denmark...Hold out for the best!
Hehe. At least you got calls! Amazing the power of the press really, albeit for jobs you don't want. I'm amazed and impressed (and envious) you're studying Danish so much. Good for you. Even if you wait another three months for a job, you're not exactly wasting time. Feeling 'poor' probably but what you're doing will only set you up in a better way than the rest of us in the long run!
NQD... thanks for the encouragement....your timing was perfect as I sit here on a Sat. morning surrounded by my homework! This is the most difficult thing I have ever done. And "they" said getting my PhD would be hard... HAH! "they" must have never worked to learn Danish!
Hang in there girl... at least it is a very good start... Something will open up for you!
Hah...now I have the perfect joke to play on you. I can send you all sorts of bogus job opportunities and say, "I saw your article in the Danish newspaper". Hmm....what could they be...
Ah...now I have all sorts of crazy ideas for prank calls...
