On Friday, we drove to Skagen, Denmark’s most northern point. Our ferry to Gøteborg, Sweden was departing from Frederikshavn at 2:30 and since Skagen is only thirty minutes north of Frederikshavn, this was my chance to see something from my “things I want to see in Denmark” list. Several years ago, I taught world geography and ever since then, I am always so excited to see things in the world about which I have read and taught, and Skagen is one of those places.
Grenen is the spot in Skagen where something special happens, and I believe it is the only place in the world where this occurs. Although it was cold and windy on Friday, we walked out to Grenen, so I could witness this phenomenon…where two seas meet and their waters crash into one another. I stood on Grenen and saw it for myself and it was amazing! The Kattegat Sea, from the east of Denmark, and the North Sea, from the west of Denmark, crash into each other over and over and seeing this was a little cold wind!
We drove from Skagen in time to depart to Gøteborg, and after three hours on the ferry, we arrived in Sweden, one of the other Scandinavian countries. There are only three (Note: Many people will tell you that Finland is part of Scandinavian, but they are WRONG!) Scandinavian countries—Denmark, Sweden and Norway—and although they are similar to each other in language, culture and food, I am learning how unique each country is!!

In the ferry, with Denmark's windmills behind us.

Færgen har høje toiletter for en sikkerhedsskyld du bliver søsyg...
The ferry has tall toilets just in case you get seasick...
Velkommen til Sverige, Vikingmand!
Welcome to Sweden, Viking man!
On Friday night, we ate our anniversary dinner at "Heaven 23" on the 23rd floor where you have a view of the entire city. Heaven 23 is known for its MOJITOS so we said "CHEERS" to our Texas friend, Dave Branson!

I had a mini honeymoon in Skagen. (after we registered our marriage at the city hall). looking at those pictures brings back memories.
Happy anniversary! Looks great!
I'm sure that other seas meet each other too.. for example, at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, the Atlantic meets the Pacific...
(Will have to rush to the globe to see if there are other seas meeting too...)
Glad to hear you had a good time in Sweden!
SORRY! I meant that the Atlantic meets the INDIAN Ocean at the Cape...
I think the Atlantic meets the Pacific at the Panama Canal and at Tierra del Fuego...
Probably other oceans meeting each other in other places too...
Looks like you guys had a blast! Tell me, do they really make those Skagen watches in Skagen? I see those all the time at Nordstrom.
I had no idea about the sea in Skagen.. Bjørn used to go there every year for some big festival.. Hope to make it there someday... Happy Anniversary!
PS I love the pink coat!
Dave Branson says, "Skal!"

Skagen watches are not really made in Skagen.
The Skagen Designs company was founden by the married couple Henrik og Charlotte Jorst who in 1987 moved from Copenhagen, Denmark to New York in the US. After moving to New York they founded Skagen Designs.
Henrik and Charlotte both came from northern Zealand, but has a shop and an aparment in Skagen where they spend the summer and Christmas. But Skagen Designs is based in New York where the couple has lived since 1987.
Just read the above in this recent article http://pleasure.dk/shopping/artikel/144772/
The Skagen watches has Swiss made Quartz movement.
