Day 3 in Denmark....day 2 in Copenhagen

After we "met" the Little Mermaid, we drove to the Carlsberg Brewery. It was a great tour and we recommend it to everyone... it costs about 10 dollars for the tour and 2 beers and it is VERY interesting! We drink beer quite often, but it is really cool to stop and think about how long it takes for one bottle of beer to go from start to finish!
I am thankful for the development of Carlsberg's beer bottles...so my Viking husband can drink from a bottle, instead of his Viking horn!

Shelly...this picture is for you! Now we know why Benjamin Franklin is your fave person from history! Words of wisdom!Næste stop--Amalienborg Slot---hjemmet for Danmarks kongelig familie.

Next stop--Amalienborg Castle--home to Denmark's royal family. We arrived just in time to see the changing of the guard. My parents were very impressed by how close to the queen's house that people could walk!

Even though the weather was getting colder, I really wanted to show them Ny Havn, so we bundled up, walked along the canal, ate æbleskiver (Danish Christmas pastry) and drank gløgg (Danish Christmas drink made from hot red wine and spices...like alcoholic wassil!)
Hvordan at lave Æbleskiver...
How to make Æbleskiver...
Our trip to Copenhagen would not be complete without shopping on Strøget...and visiting Mads' shop!

Today was a perfect day for us to be in Copenhagen because it was one year ago today that Mads and I were married here, at Copenhagen's City Hall. My parents could not travel to Denmark for our wedding, so it was VERY SPECIAL to share today, our first wedding anniversary, with them in the place "where it all happened"!

Looks like you're having a great time!
I love æbleskiver!! I have actually made them in Oklahoma! I'm sure they aren't as good as the real thing!
OK, I love that you had a Ben Franklin moment and were able to combine it with BEER!! Wonderful! Your parents look like they are having the best time!
Every time I see that Little Mermaid statue I think about how Jess said that she was tired of seeing it! ROFL!
You look so happy and so do your parents! I hope they didn't freeze their buts off! It's been excruciatingly cold here!
You look really happy in these pics. I am so glad to see you being able to reconnect with your family here.
Love the photos! Thanks for sharing.
We have many of the same pictures, except the last time I saw the Little Mermaid she wasn't there. Some Danes had played a practical joke and used dynamite to blast her off the rock.
Enjoy your time with your parents!
Nice pictures. Where did you find the lady that made the pastry?
Mmmm beer.
We always tell people its the cheapest beer in the city. For some reason the guys that are working the bar seem to like Michael and he has walked away with as many as 5 free beers before.
Æbleskiver, gløgg and Nyhavn is the perfect combination in my eyes!
