I Amerika, har vi noget hedder "et baby brusebad", som er en fest gives til gravid-dame før babyen kommer. Sædvanligvis vordende mor vælger mange ting hun og hendes mand vil gerne at modtage for deres baby...såsom babytøj, tæpper, bleer, en pram, og ting til barneværelse ("nursery på engelsk). Det er normalt at vordende forældre har valgt en tema til barneværelse så mennesker kan købe ting hvilket går med temaet. "Et baby brusebad" er så sjov og hyggelig--med kage og punch og tosset spiller! Alle sidder og ser vordende mor åbner gaver og siger ting såsom "Ooooo.....ahhhhh.....så sød.....så lille....jeg havde en af disse for min baby...." Det er en dejlig tradition for nye forældre fordi det giver dem mange ting at begynde deres nyt "liv med en baby".

Usually the expectant mother chooses many things she and her husband woudl like to receive for their baby.... such as baby clothes, blankets, diapers, a stroller, and things for the nursery. It is normal that expectant parents choose a theme for the nursery so people kan buy things which will go with the theme. A baby shower is so fun and so cozy---with cake and punch and silly games! Everyone sits and watches the expectant mom open her gifts and say things like "oooooo.....ahhhh....so sweet.....so little.....I had one of those for my baby....." It is a great tradition for new parents because it gives them many things to begin their new "life with a baby".

My cousins are pregnant... Ok, Melissa is pregnant, but Frankie is her husband so I think "they are PREGNANT TOGETHER!!" And 2 weeks ago we had Melissas baby shower in Southeast Texas, where I am originally from.
Et "baby brusebad" har altid "væretinder" som betaler for at have fest, og jeg var en væretinder, selv om jeg bor i Danmark, fordi Frankie er meget speciel til mig... og siden han har bragt Mel ind vores familie, er hun blevet meget speciel til mig, også. "Brusebadet" var en rigtig god fest og Frankie og Mel modtog mange ting for Karsyn (navnet de vælges til deres pige). I går, modtog jeg en gave fra dem for at sige "tak" til alle væretinder. Dog, min gave var lidt forskellig fra andre væretinders gave... min gave havde få "ekstra" ting ind pakke.... inklusive noget til Mads!! TAK Melissa og Frankie.... du lavede os meget lykkelig!!!
A baby shower always has "hostesses" who pay for the party and I was a hostess for Melissas shower, even though I live in Denmark because Frankie is very special to me...and since he has brought Mel into our family, she has become so special to me too! The baby shower was a great party and Frankie and Mel received so many things for Karsyn (the name they have chosen for their little girl). Yesterday I received a gift from them to say "thanks" to all the hostesses. However, my gift was a little different from the others....my gift had a few "extra" things in the package.... including something for Mads! THANKS to Melissa and Frankie.... you have made us quite happy!!!

So, which present was for Mads? I don't recognize any of the American products, I'm afraid, so I just can't guess...
How cool that you were able to be a host of the shower from so far away! I think you need to keep a tally of how many boxes of mac and cheese and canisters of crystal light you have received. What in the world is the thing in the middle though? I can't seem to figure it out... hmmm???
the Velveeta Shells and Cheese was for Mads... the first time he had Macaroni and cheese in the states, he wanted to know if I had the "recipe" for it.... then I told him it came from a BOX!! LOL.
Now it is one of his favorite side dishes!! But you cannot buy it in Denmark!
And the thing in the middle is one of those oils where you set the reeds inside and they pull the "bad" odor out and put the yummy smells in the room... lol. They are great in the kitchen to mask the smells of whatever you cooked for dinner last night!
You know, I always laugh when I see pictures of your care packages from the US. My parents were always sending me boxes of my favorite foods I missed while in Denmark. Nowwww....Peter and I get excited when his mom sends us packages of Danish foods we miss. :-)
Perhaps we should set up some sort of exchange program....send each other bi-monthly care packages. I'll send American food...you send the Danish.
Ok Jackie, I am LOVING THIS IDEA!!! Maybe we can start it after the holidays! My friend Nichole is moving back to Texas in January, and we talked about sending each other peanut butter...she likes the danish kind and you know I want JIF!

It cracks me up that gravid means pregnant in Danish. I know the term...because as a fish breeder, it's a term you use for pregnant fish!
