Forbindelser.... Connections

Have you heard the term "six degrees of separation"? It means that we are all connected to each other through each other. For example if I know you and you know a 2nd woman who knows a 3rd woman who knows a 4th woman who knows a 5th woman, it is HIGHLY LIKELY that the 5th woman and I know each other!! You can see that the world is filled with relationships and connections if you are willing to look beyond your own inner circle. Facebook har shown this to us as it connects people all over the world and I realize this more and more now that I live in another country.

Alle havde to ting til fælles....

On Friday I had a special experience at the home of my good friend, Marta (She and I go to the language school together and have become really great friends!) Thirteen people came together around a dinnertable on Friday night with only one thing in common...Marta. When you combine thirteen people from different parts of the world, three different languages and very different backgrounds with good conversation, delicious food, and a cozy dinner table, you get a wonderful international night! I think that Marta was very brave to have a dinnerparty where she has invited friends who did not know each other and who spoke three different languages--English, Danish and Ukranian--- but I am so glad that she did! I ate dinner with 12 other people... I only knew three of them before I came. Everyone had two things in common... We all live in Denmark now and we all have a relationship with Marta, but the most interesting thing is: Marta did not know any of them before she moved to Denmark from the Ukraine with her Danish husband, Ole. Thanks, Marta, for a wonderful night and for our own personal "six degrees of separation"!

Experienced evenings like this with the American club I was in up in Molde. The only thing we had in common was we were American and living in Norway but we had some very nice evenings. I think the best about living overseas is you open up to the idea that we (Americans) don't know it all and we don't have the upper hand on everything...that we can learn from our international friends and learn a lot!!!

Oh - I just love these kinds of get-togethers!

And I can highly recommend the film with Stockard Channing that is called: Six Degrees of Separation!
