Vigtighed af venner .... Importance of friends

In Texas I was so lucky to have an incredible group of friends who I did such fun things with all the time....in fact, every time I look the ottoman in our living room, I remember "porch nights at Schreffs" (sorry that everyone does not understand what that is!). I talk with my friends from Texas through email and skype, but it is just not the same as when I was with them. But I know that they are friends for life, so it is ok if they are having "porch night" without me until we can have another one in the future!

In Denmark I have been so lucky to find a group of girlfriends who I like so much! We have had so many fun times together with each other, our husbands, and kids, but last night things changed a little! Because last night was my first official "girls night out" since I moved to Denmark. Marta (my friend from the Ukraine), Monica (my friend from Michigan) and I wanted to plan a night out together before Monica flies to the US for Christmas, so that we could have a little "girl time" without kids or husbands. So where do 3 women go for a night out? "Big Bowl" , of course!

Jeg opdagede 2 ting i aftes / I discovered 2 things last night.

1) Bowling shows are just as ugly in Denmark as they are in Texas!

2) Nothing can compare to the times that you have with your girlfriends! Our time together, as women, is so important and so necessary! And I am so thankful that I have Marta and Monica!

My grandfather once said if on your death bed you can count five TRUE friends on your hand, those who have been there through everything, then you've lived a very rich life. There are so many people who come and go in our lives, they give our life colour and sometimes meaning. It was sad to read the sadness in your blog about missing your friends in Texas but good to read that you've been blessed with two good friends in your new home. In time I'm sure you'll be writing about porch nights in Denmark.....hang in there!!!

I'll find out for you - I know someone who got it from Germany and I think they just crossed the border and got it in a "grænsekiosk" - I'll get back to you on that one!

I think the reason rental bowling shoes are so ugly is to avoid anyone wanting to steal them and use them as their own.

Looks like fun! My kids refer to bowling shoes as clown shoes...

Where in Michigan is Monica from?

We're from Kalamazoo. Methinks she'll be flying back to some mighty cold Michigan weather over the Christmas holidays.

That's why we live in Texas now ;-)

Even after 4 years I still keep in touch with the people I met in Denmark. Don't you find Danish people to me more open and friendly than Americans?
