I add new things to our "Becoming Green in 2009 plan" everyday, so little by little I will share it with everyone. Remember--Step 1 is "BIKE to work" (as soon as we have morning temps that this Texas girl can handle! But I think next week will be my week....)
Trin 2- Se billedet. Ja, jeg er blevet min MoMo Fontenot. Jeg drillede hende hver gang at hun vaskede sine "Ziploc" poser! Og nu.... her er jeg. Jeg prøver at bruge plastik skåle i stedet for poser, men hvis jeg bruger en Ziploc poser til at fryse noget (ligesom min hjemmelavet creme af kylling suppe!!) eller spar noget, jeg VASKER OG GENBRUGER HVER GANG! Også du?? :o)
Step 2- See picture. Yes, I have become my MoMo Fontenot. I teased her every time that she washed out her Ziploc bags! And now... here I am. I try to use plastic bowls (Tupperware--sort of!) instead of bags, but if I need to use a Ziploc to freeze something (like my homemade cream of chicken soup!!) or to save something, I WASH AND RECYCLE EVERY TIME! You too?? :o)

Don't worry, you can bike in any Danish weather:) I wouldn't bike in Montreal at all...during winter.
Kelli, we are really birds of the same feather. Im huge on recycling and green movements. The ziploc bag idea is great. Right now, I only use tupperwares which I wash out later. Great to see you doing your part for the environment. Now if I can only get myself to hop on that bicycle every morning..
I tend to freeze stuff in little plastic boxes that can be washed and used time and time again. Any plastic bags are re-cycled as rubbish bins, for example, although we use cloth bags when we do our big weekly shop.
Lady Fi... I totally agree.... I have just had bad luck with my Danish "tupperware"...some of it is so poorly made that it cracks and breaks in the freezer. I plan to buy a set of good "Rubbermaid" freezer bowls and lids next time I am in the states, so I can make sure that my bowls don't crack when they are filled with my yummy corn chowder that I want to save for a cold winter day...
which btw, until I find a crock pot I can use here, that is my other option...cook in large quantities and freeze for another day. See... I am learning! :o)
You can buy Rubbermaid in Denmark too.
One of the best way to save energy in the home is to hang dry your clothes. A dryer consumes a lot of energy.
And for transportation use bike + bus/train instead of the car, this also saves a lot of energy.
We re-use plastic bags religiously here too! Also, in my kid's lunch box, I pack everything in madpakkepapir, since aluminum foil is evil!

I just decided the same thing! I now make three lunches every morning and I was using up to 15 plastic bags a day!!! I just bought some "Danish" tupperware lunch boxes so I can wash them. I still use one or two for some things but this is better than 15!
I love this new Environmentalist side of you. This is a good lesson for all of us living on this planet Earth to learn. MoMo would be proud of the recycling of ziplocks. I think she did it to save money, not the environment.
It really is all the "little" things that when when we all do them make a BIG impact. You inspire us to do more of our own little things with this post.

I keep all my glass jars to keep things in after I wash them. It is amazing what you can put in a jar!

Denmark is ready to increase the number of windmills with 30% within the next 3 years. This means they will raise 400-450 new giant windmills in 2010-2011 with a total capacity of 900 megawatt. This will be enough to cover the annual electricity consumption of 500,000 Danish homes.
