Landet af HCAndersen ... The land of HCAndersen

I am still not used to seeing swans so often in Denmark! They are not so common in Texas. We have them only for ornamental purposes...maybe in a pond at the golf course. However in Denmark, they are EVERYWHERE--especially in the fields along the country roads. Now I understand why HC Andersen´s most famous fairy tale is "The Ugly Duckling"!!

Swans are so majestic.

P.s: i loved your prices post below, you funny lady..what if the store owner had seen you? He would have thought you were a spy from another store!

I always convert everything into dollars or British pounds, I cannot help it.

Once when I worked in a pet store, someone came in and told me there was a swam out in the parking lot...looked lost they said and wondered if I could do anything about it. Thinking how cool it would be to catch a swam and put it in a box and take home with me after work I of course took the opportunity to go out and have a look...what greeted me was this giagantic bird which was as tall as me flapping his wings and I thought- OH HELL NO....I apologized that I couldn't help and went back in to the store. Never realized they are SO big....geeze!!!

Aren't swans, like, incredibly mean? I remember there was a swan that lived in Gee Lake at ETSU when I was a student. Ducks also lived in the lake. Lots of us went to the lake with bread to feed all the birds. The ducks were appreciative; the swans repeatedly tried to beak us.

I Denmark there's 3 different species of swans. The one known as mute swan ("knopsvane" in Danish) was voted Denmark's national bird in a national TV-voting in 1984 and it's the biggest bird in Denmark's nature.

Ducks, geese and swans all belong to the biological family Anatidae. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatidae

Swans can be lethal! We were attacked by one once - never want to repeat that!

Kelli: I'm hosting a Blog Carnival for ex-pats on my site Sunday evening/Monday morning... I'd love it if I could link to a couple of your posts... Would that be all right? You had one a while back where you summarized your first months in Denmark. Could you send me the link to that post?

Pas på at din hund ikke kommer tæt på svaner, de er meget aggressive og angriber selv store hunde.
