Jeg er en Cajun pige, og jeg har spist rejer siden jeg havde tænder. Jeg har lavet mad med rejer siden jeg lærte at koge. Min PaPa Fontenot var en "rejer-fisker" for mange år. Jeg har MANGE opskrifter for at koge rejer. MoMo og jeg kørte til "Bin", vores "rejer-dame" hver gang jeg besøgte MoMo så jeg kunne købe 23kg GULF rejer og bringer dem tilbage til Dallas. Faktisk, jeg har min PaPa Fontenots speciel redskab at han brugt at "de-vein" rejer. JEG VED OM REJER. Jeg er så heldig for at bo i et land hvor jeg kan købe gode, friske rejer alle tiden, men jeg har lært noget om hvordan danskerne ser rejer og hvordan jeg ser rejer..... og STØRRELSE ER VIGTIG.I am a Cajun girl, and I have eaten shrimp since I had teeth. I have made food with shrimp since I learned to cook. My PaPa was a shrimper for many years. I have MANY recipes for cooking shrimp. MoMo and I would drive to "Bin", our "shrimp lady" every time I visited MoMo so I could buy 50lbs of GULF shrimp to bring back to Dallas. And in fact, I have my PaPa Fontenot´s special tool that he used to devein shrimp. I KNOW SHRIMP. I am so lucky to live in a country where I can buy good, fresh shrimp all the time, but I have learned something about how Danes view shrimp and how I view shrimp.... and SIZE DOES MATTE

R!Vi får mest af vores rejer fra grønland.... og de kommer i 3 slags--"mellem store", "store" og "ekstra store". Jeg syntes at det var tid at jeg deler en forskel i mig og danmark fordi når du kalder noget "STORE", den er stor....rigtig?! Den første gang at jeg brugt store rejer for at lave en GUMBO i danmark, indså jeg hvad "store" betyder her! Kaste et blik på en STOR REJER.....samme størrelse som en 50øre. Hvis dette er "stor", jeg forestiller at min numse må være "ekstra, ekstra, ekstra stor"!! :o) Jeg ønsker at jeg kunne vise dem til MoMo! Hun ville grine så hård!
We get most of our shrimp from Greenland...and they comes in 3 varieties---"medium", "large", and "extra large". I thought it was time that I share one difference in me and Denmark because when you call something "large", it´s large, right?! The first time I used large shrimp to make a GUMBO in Denmark, I realized hvad "large" means here! Take a look at a LARGE SHRIMP....same size as a penny. If this is "large", I imagine that my butt must be "extra, extra, extra large"!! :o) I wish I could show these to MoMo....she would CRACK UP!

OOh I sympathise with you on this one. Shrimps in Denmark are considered dwarves compared to their cousins in Indonesia - and the shrimps always have these weird chemical taste (preservative agents?) on them (either frozen or in water). It sucks!

I asked hubby to buy shrimps before going to DK and he bought 2 bags of those. I was like...that's not real shrimps!

Do they have mudbugs/crawfish...or as some people call them "cray"fish, in Denmark?
In Texas we call those "popcorn" shrimp and that means SMALL! But then again, everything is big in Texas!

KCLC-- yes we have CRAWFISH (at least that is what we "cajun folk" call them! And they are great! They are called krebshaler here... which makes them a kind of crab, by the name.
In fact just last night we had tilapia smothered in Crawfish Etouffee...mmmmmmmmm

wow, i wonder what they would call the shrimp we ate in our gumbo the other day? they must have been gargantuan godzilla shrimp :)
Took me a long time to get over the size of the shrimp here.
I was used to much more extravagant sizes, and large was LARGE.
I have been refusing to use the shrimp here because it just felt so wrong, I miss those great big beasts! But you say that size doesn't matter, so maybe I'll try.
Come on then, Cajun Girl! Give us a recipe that can use the small-large shrimp we have here!

..okay, and now I am being really 'fræk' (naughty) but you know, with these references to your butt, we probably need a picture of it (next to the penny of course) so we can tell you whether it is. LOL.
Well, to be fair, what you Texans call "large shrimps" are probably what we would call kinarejer or kongerejer in DK. Rejer by itself just refers to the small ones, not the other species.
