Tur af Skanderborg ... A tour of Skanderborg

On Sunday we took a driving trip to Skanderborg with my inlaws. The best part of our trips with them is that they never take the highways. Instead we take the back roads so that I can have the chance to see all the extra parts of the Danish landscape and I love it!

Skanderborg is famous in Europe for its annual
MusicFest that brings many big names in music to Denmark each summer (Eric Clapton, for example last summer). The 4 day festival is called "Denmark´s most beautiful festival" because it takes place in a huge beech forest in Skanderborg. Here is a picture I took on Sunday of the entrance to where the music festival is each year. Mads would like us to go this summer, but I am not so excited about sleeping 4 nights in a tent....LOL. Maybe I will change before summer comes.....especially if I can sleep in one of these tents: http://www.smukfest.dk/page.asp?id1=225&id2=346&id3=252&id4=0 We saw many more wonderful things around Skanderborg...things I definitely want to go back and see in warmer weather!

Skanderborg was the headquarters in Jutland for the Germans during WWII while they occupied Denmark. A huge bunker lies in one of Skanderborg´s forests and re-opens to visitors in April.

Castle Church of Skanderborg that sits alongside the place where the Castle used to be and in front of Denmark´s largest lake, Mossø.

En gammel kloster på vejen til Skanderborg. Jeg kan lide, især, vejs navn--"Munkvej".
An old monastery along the road to Skanderborg. I especially like the road´s name---"Monk road".

Looks like a very pretty area, but of course that would be the description for pretty much all of the pics you have posted within the last year!! :)

It looks fantastic! Reminds me of England...

I agree with you - sleeping in tents, in the rain and mud, with no toilets is not my cup of tea either...

Beer can tents...how DANISH!!!! Whenever you see shows here from Denmark, they look like a bunch of party animals...is this true??

I wouldn't be my cup of tea either, a music festival, only because there would be other people then me there...hahahaha...if i could get a private concert I might go...hahahaha...

Your inlaws sound wonderful. I love people who take the off beat path in life and not the usual highway!!!

This is definitely a step up from Woodstock.....but you're too young to know about that. Those can tents remind me of giant porta-pottys.....IF they were blue it would be like the the 3-Day Walk all over again. hee hee

The Can Sleep article is also avaiable in English
http://www.smukfest.dk/page.asp?id1=225&id2=252&id3=265&id4=0

But if you want to reserve one of the Can Sleeps you have to be very very quick

"The 121 CAN SLEEPs® were produced for the Danmarks Smukkeste Festival 2005 and placed as six-packs near the festival area. The area had separate toilet and bathing facilities. The CAN SLEEPs® were rented through the internet on the first come, first served principle – and they were sold out in just 40 sec."

I think if I lived in Denmark, all I'd want to do would be to drive around on back country roads with a picnic basket on the weekends!

I like Nettie's comment w/ the picnic basket on the wkends - perfect idea! :-)
Kelli, thanks for sharing all these great pix of Denmark that you get to see... it lets me ask Mac lots of questions and gets him thinking of places he wants to show me. Thanks again for such a great blog! :-)

OK, I don't like camping (I said I camped when I lived on a farm in AR. However if I could have a beer can tent I am all in!
