We have so many things in all three Scandinavian countries that remind me of fairytales and I think it is because all three countries still have monarchies. Kings, queens, princesses and castles--all the things that little girls find when they are reading their fairytale books. I love to read and hear about our royal family in Denmark and I think they represent the country so very well! The Danish crown prince is married to a "non royal" woman, but although Mary does not come from a royal family, she has become (in my opinion) "a true royal representative" of Denmark! And I think it is so awesome that Frederik could marry the woman that he loves .........regardless of the women´s family tree.
A similiar story happened in Sweden this week as the King of Sweden announced his daughter´s engagement. Crown Princess Victoria will become the next monarch of Sweden, but she had to receive special approval to become engaged to her sweetheart, Daniel. He does not have "blue blood"; in fact, he owns a fitness center! They have been a couple for many years but now their relationsihp is official.....This fitness center owner will be married to Sweden´s next monarch! Watch the video and although you cannot understand the Swedish they are speaking, you will see how much in love they are... so romantic!

The crown princess reminds me a bit of Michelle Obama.
Yes - Victoria and Daniel have been an item for SEVEN years!! The media here have been full of the news - but no wedding until next year... There go my tax dollars! ;-)
Me again! I posted a photo of my spark here in an earlier post:

The royal family is a matter of great debate in Norway- many feel that they do not do enough for the country to justify their high spending lifestyle. Others feel they are a symbol of the country- like our American Eagle or something..Some feel Norway should do away with the royals and have a republican society. Regardless of what happens with the royals- I'd never in my life want to change places with them...ugh...
Glad Victoria finally gets her man- she held onto her love despite the difficulties in getting him "approved" and he hung in with her- true love succeeded!!! Hope they have many years of happiness together.
Mary in Denmark is gorgeous- really an impressive woman!!!
Every country should have a royal family in my opinion, because think about it, for all the money that they cost a country, they stimulate the economy by providing media fodder! I guess the US has Hollywood instead.
All I have to say is it is about time those two are finally able to tie the knot. I've followed this couple for a long time and am so happy for them. Love. It's a great thing.
I cannot help adoring the Danish royal family, but I gotta admit that there is something about the Swedish royals, just on face value, that gives me the heebie jeebies and turns my stomach. I don't know why, but our lot (the Danes) seem more ethereal, and the Swedish seem fake and hard.
Am I the only one to notice that the recently betrothed Victoria and her beau could pass for brother and sister? They look so alike. Spooky.
No-one beats our Mary and Marie for genuine princess quality though. Those gals are darling.
