Selvfølgelig har hun en privat dansk lærer og jeg går i sprogskole 2 aftener om ugen (NETDansk var ikke så god for mi mundtlig kommunikation så jeg er i aftenklasser nu!) men jeg har håb efter lytning til hende! Jeg har så mange danske ord i mit hoved.... jeg har lige brug for at øve mig HVORDAN at sige dem i det rette måde! Men som min svigermor fortæller mig--- DET KOMMER! Tålmodighed, Kelli, tålmodighed!

I know it is in Danish, but just listen to HOW she sounds. (My first official speech in Danish was November 23, 2007 to Mads and my new family members. Remember? ) She has inspired me because she sounds a bit like I sound in Danish! Like a foreigner! Of course she has a private Danish tutor and I go to the Danish school two nights a week (yeah, that NETDansk was not enough for my language acquisition so I took the plunge and joined the night classes!), but I have hope after listening to her! I have so many words in my head....I just need to practice HOW to say them the right way! But as my mother in law tells me---IT WILL COME IN TIME! Patience, Kelli, patience!

I support you all the way. It can be done!! I'm sure you'll be able to talk like Princess Mary (not just Marie) or even more like Alexandra, which is fabulously fluent in Danish :D
My "moment of truth" was when I took an oral exam in Project Management at Handelshøjskolen and managed to do it "på dansk" and still get a 10-karakter (old system :-)).
My homework last night was to read a book. But reading is crazy easy, speaking is wicked hard. So I read the book out loud to my husband. I only stopped if I didn't know what the word meant and therefore had to ask, or if I mispronounced something dreadfully (sig, siger, and tager will give me an infarction) or in one particular instance, when I began to sound a little too Swedish Chef.
Anyway, it's all fun and games until I have to construct a sentence that is a little more complicated than "I verb noun." Then it's a total crapshoot.
Watch the Danish language professor Jørgen Lund comment on Princess Marie's speech and talking about how hard it is to learn Danish for foreigners compared to many other languages.
The good thing is he said it's easier for English and German speakers to learn Danish than French speakers like Princess Marie and Prince Henrik.
He said people from Turkey and Greenland have the hardest time learnign Danish, which is ironic since Greenland is part of Denmark.

The absolute funniest thing about that is the survey asking how well she spoke danish. Apparently WHAT she said is irrelevant, all that matters is how well she pronounced the danish!
OH...I feel the same way! I hate how I sound when I speak in Danish! But the funny thing is, when I lived in Denmark she and the crown prince had just gotten married, and friends and family in Denmark told me I sounded like her.
Now I have hope...it has taken her 5 years to learn Danish and give her first official speech....if she can do it, so can I!
