In our family, April 15th is not "tax day". We know that the 15th is the day that the US government demands that we pay our taxes, but when we wake up on the 15th, we celebrate! Why? Because "today is my mom´s birthday! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! She is sure she will get what she has wished for this year plus a yummy chocolate cake!" (Yes, that is the introduction to the Danish birthday song! )
56 år siden, i dag, i Port Arthur Texas, blev en lille Cajun pige født! Og 39 år siden, valgte hun at være min mor! Og i dag, efter hun har overlevet det meste svært år i hendes liv, FEJRER VI HENDE!
56 years ago, today, in Port Arthur, Texas, a little Cajun girl was born! And 39 years ago, she chose to be my mom! And today, after she has survived the most difficult year of her life, WE CELEBRATE HER!
i august 2007, den første gang at hun mødte Mads!
In August 2007, the first time she met Mads!
Christmas 2007--the year she made DUCK for my Danish husband´s Christmas dinner!
november 2008--hendes første tur til Danmark! (og JA, flere tur kommer!!)
November 2008--her first trip to Denmark! (and yes, there will be others!!)

oktober 2006--De mest vigtige dage at vi har haft sammen hinanden--Susan G. Komen 3 Day
October 2006--The most important days that we have ever had together--Susan G. Komen 3 Day

Happy birthday to your mother. She looks so young:)
What a sweet, sweet post. Happy Birthday, Kelli's mom!!!
Happy Birthday Kelli's mum!
Happy Birthday Kelli's mom! Is it just me, or do you guys have the EXACT same smile? Looks like there's a lot of love between you two! Have a great day!
Happy Birthday to Kelli's Mom! Great post & pictures of you two. :-)
I'm a big hit at Danish birthday parties, because the only part of the song I can sing is "hurrah, hurrah, hurrah" and "dejlig chokolade med kage til" So I sing those bits VERY LOUDLY in bad Danish.
So a slightly late tilukke med din mors fødselsdag. And apologies for being unable to spell in Danish. I feel slightly too lazy to go and look up all the words in the ordbøg.
:-)
Happy Birthday to your mom! I can see you inherited your young, beautiful looks from her!
Love this post and all the nice comments - especially the one about how young your mom looks. I feel pretty young today - beautiful weather outside and life is good. Love you and can't wait to see you next month.
Hi... you don't know me, but I'm an American who used to live in Denmark, and I found your blog by googling for those terms.
I've been enjoying your observations about the two countries and I felt compelled to respond to this post because you mentioned that April 15th wasn't tax day for you guys.
This caused me a little bit of concern because all American citizens have to file their taxes regardless of where they live. (There is an automatic extension for overseas Americans, though). You probably already knew that, but I just wanted to make sure that the author of a really great blog didn't get in trouble with the authorities over a little-known law.
I am a soon to be love immigrant to Denmark ( The visa gods willing). Have been lurking around your blog for a while. I am here at http://www.shetalkslikejune.wordpress.com and hope to write more about just how much Danes love their candles.
First name: No worries..my taxes are already filed, but thanks for the reminder. I just wanted to point out that if you say "april 15" to most Americans, they think TAXES... in our family April 15 means MOM. :o)
Hey Kelli
Thank you for dropping by my blog. I am gonna be sneaking some danish lessons from your blog :)
Happy belated birthday to Kelli's mom. You two look like the best of friends together!
