Albert had an appointment at the groomer this morning and each time I take him, I think about how different the groomer prices are in America and Denmark. Of course Albert is like my child so no price is too high... :o) But I cannot understand how a dog haircut costs SO MUCH MORE in Denmark! (How much can scissors, water, soap and a razor cost?)
In America Albert had 2 different groomers--His first drove to our house in her "Groomer´s Van" where she washed and clipped him and it cost about $50 (about 250kroner). After she had an operation, we had to find another groomer. Our new guy had a shop (instead of a van) so I drove Albert to him every four weeks and it cost about $40 (about 200 kroner).
After we moved to Denmark Mads searched for a good groomer in the Herning area. The first one he found was AWFUL and poor Albert looked terrible after he was there! We found another in Tjørring (just 5 minutes from Herning), but she was full.... but we had heard she was the best in the area, so Mads called her two different times and asked her SO SWEETLY to take him... She said OK, ONE MORE DOG! She is so good and Albert really likes to be groomed there with her.
Both--the awful groomer and the great groomer cost the same--450 kroner (about $90) and I have since learned that is the normal rate here! So now Albert goes to the grommer every FIVE weeks (instead of 4) and he looks so handsome.... all for just $90!

Awwww he's just adorable.
I think, I know who the bad groomer is, my cousin from Ikast was telling me about them the other day. Her dog gets groomed elsewhere as well.
My dog doesn't need professional grooming, but on the other hand, she's shedding like it's nobody's business right now. We have dog hair everywhere.
And the dog food prices! At least double the States. BTW, I just found a Danish dog food we're going to switch over to after Max finishes this bag of the hated Purina. Oliver's, have you heard of it? Looks holistic and very high quality! I'm so happy!
I think Max and Albert would get along great, too! Max is so friendly, he's absolutely convinced that every person and every dog on this planet is his very own special friend. ;)
Suddenly I am filled with a great desire to become a dog groomer....
I'm thinking that's the job to have. Let's see: $90 x 2 dogs per day, five days per week... okay, I can't count that high.
I love Albert. LOVE him. Would he like to visit Michigan? Of course, we don't have many forests in Detroit, but there are lots of other reasons to run.
My daughters want your dog. :)
Denmark is just ridiculous expensive...when it comes to EVERYTHING! Albert looks adorable though...but I know how you feel. The only thing I have found that was more expensive in Daytona than in Denmark is rye bread (real rugbrød)!
Hi Corinne,
I use Olivers and I'm very satisfied with it. Plus they deliver, which is a huge advantage. :)
Every time I go to Eaton Court it costs me $200 for a cut and color plus tip, so I think Albert is getting a great deal. I wonder if I could go to a dog groomer?
Albert is adorable and worth $90. Do they color the hair and do a weave so it comes out more natural?
Awwh, just look at that beautiful face. How could she not groom such a beautiful dog? The prices are outrageous!
OMG the cuteness in that Albert pic has overwhelmed me ... *flop*
Yup, the biggest (and one of the few) thing(s) that I don't miss about DK...the ridiculous prices!!
Albert looks so cute all done up! :)
I wouldn't spend 450kr on my own haircut let alone my dog's...hahahaha...but hey...we all spend money as we see fit..he is adorable looking though. He looks so happy, my mom's bichons were always so happy and I had a little Bichon Havanais who was just Mr. Happy with legs...so funny!!! So is what I just wrote- Mr. Happy with legs...ugh...I'm so glad it's the weekend now..have a great trip to London- hope to hear all about it!!
The time has come for you to order some clippers & a video from ebay and clip him yourself !
Tina
Too cute! And that grooming is still cheaper than it is over here in Sweden.. I think...
