Bededag...Prayer Day

Bededags varme hveder!)

Today is "Bededag"--Great Prayer Day in Denmark. Prayer Day comes the 4th Friday after Easter and is a national holiday where schools, shops and offices are closed. In preparation for Bededag, Danes eat "warm wheat buns"....a DELICIOUS bread that you can only buy the night before Bededag. I LOVED them and will look forward to next year when I can eat them again! "In Denmark we have so many special delicious things that you can only buy at certain times of the year....Christmas beer, Easter beer, Kleiner and now....Bededag´s Warm Wheat Rolls!)

Today we have many confirmations in Denmark. Confirmations are a huge thing in the lives of Danish teenagers and I am excited to see my first confirmation. Our niece, Rebecca, will be confirmed today so I will have many things to tell after I experience my first Danish Confirmation on Prayer day!

Meanwhile, is this not the weirdest weather? It's pouring rain and yet it's really warm. It's currently warmer outside than inside... although I turned on the heat, which feels odd to do. I'd open the windows, but we'd get soaked!

The confirmations explains why the church bells keep ringing every two hours. They must be doing the kids in batches!!

Weird that we don't celebrate this in Norway... I thought we had all of the religious holidays covered.

I think it is great the way you explain a lot of the customs here, I always learn something when I come to your blog :)

I like how DK has so many holidays that involve special foods.

Hope that Confirmation for Rebecca was a special day for the family. Less than 3 weeks and we will have a little family time.
