Godkendt! Approved!

After I got my job at the Herning Gymnasium, it was time to ask "CIRIUS" the Danish ministry of education office, if I can be approved as a permanent gymnasium teacher in Denmark. The process usually takes 2-4 months...so I have waited many days to hear from them!

For at undervise på gymnasium, skal du have en Masters Degree i uddannelse men jeg var sikker på at, selv om jeg har alle kvalificationer, ville De fortælle mig at jeg skal tage en "dansk pædagogik kursus" dog.............

To teach at the gymnasium, you must have Master´s degree in education, but I was sure that although I have all the qualifications, they would tell me that I must take a Danish pedagogical course however............

I går fik jeg dette brev fra CIRIUS som siger "Tillykke Kelli Nørgaard! Du er nu en officiel gymnasium lære i Danmark!!" Med INGEN ekstra kursus anmodninger!

Yesterday I got this letter from CIRIUS which says, "Congratulations, Kelli Nørgaard! You are an official gymnasium teacher in Denmark!!" With NO extra courses required!

Congratulations to you too. Why do you think they didn't make you take the exam? I've been meaning to ask you for ages if your Danish is fluent? If you're writing the posts in Danish? I know Danish is a tough language to learn.

Gutsy Writer--- My spoken/heard Danish is not fluent by any means! I understand about 80 to 85% of what people say....I do much better with whole conversations than just single sentences because my vocab is large enough that I can use all my context clues! :o) Since I taught for 9 years and was a principal for 6, they credited all 15 years and said that my bachelors in English with the Masters met their requirements. To teach at a Gymnasium, as long as your masters is in Ed. , the field does not matter. Most gym. teachers are certified in 2 subjects, but I will just be able to teach English!

About the PhD exams... got an email last night. I will have my results by the end of next week, before exam week starts. So keep those fingers crossed! :o)

Tilyke med det! What a wonderful accomplishment! I am sure you will feel more and more part of the culture with a full time job.

I have been reading your blog for a while now as I lived in Denmark for a few years so it has been interesting getting your perspective of the country as an American. I am really enjoying reading the "connected" expat blogs (yours, Patti, etc.) and I am sure it makes a great difference in your adjustment to Denmark.

I think my transition to living and working in Denmark would have been smoother if I had had a forum (blogs) to meet other expats so it is great that you are using technology to the fullest extent to help your transition.

Again, tilykke med det!
