Spring in Denmark means flowers everywhere, but it also means SEVERAL holidays! We already had the Easter holidays which were the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before and the Monday after Easter. We had "Big Prayer Day" which was the fourth Friday after Easter and now we have three more! I believe that spring must be the Danes´ favorite season!
Torsdag den 21 maj er "Kristi himmelfartsdag". Mandag den 1. juni er "2. Pinsedag" og fredag den 5. juni er "Grundlovsdag".
Thursday, May 21 is "Kristi Himmelfarts Day" which literally translates to "Christ Heaven-Speed" Day. Monday, June 1 is the "Second Ascension Day" and Friday, June 5 is "Constitution Day".
Kristi himmelfartsdag er en helligdag som fejres 40 dage efter påskedag fordi dette er dagen da Jesus rejste til himmel og sad ved guds højre hånd. Kristi himmelfartsdag er altid den 6. torsdag efter "Skærtorsdag" og siden en "fri torsdag" er lidt mærkeligt, kalder mange arbejdspladser fredagen efter Kristi himmelfartsdag en fri dag også så mennesker har 4 dage i række fri.
Kristi Himmelfarts Day is a holy day which is celebrated 40 days after Easter because this is the day when Jesus returned to heaven and sat at the right hand of God. It is always celebrated the sixth Thursday after "Maundy Thursday" (Thursday before Easter) and since having a Thursday off is a bit strange, many work places have decided that the Friday after Kristi Himmelfarts Day is also a holiday so people have 4 days of holiday in a row.
2. Pinsedag kommer altid på den syvende søndag efter påske og siden søndag er ikke en arbejdsdag, fejrer danskerne pinsedag på den følgende mandag. 2. Pinsedag repræsenterer dagen da Helligåndens kom fra himmelen til jorden som var ti dage efter Kristi Himmelfartsdag.
2nd Ascension day always falls on the 7th Sunday after Easter and since Sunday is not a work day, the Danes celebrate it on the following Monday. 2nd Ascension day represents the day when the Holy Spirit came from heaven to the Earth and occurs ten days after Kristi Himmelfarts Day.
Grundlovsdag er en årligt fejring af den første danske grundlov som var underskrevet den 5. juni 1849. Dette år er det 160 årsdagen af Danmarks grundlov. På grundlovsdag er det en tradition for de danske politikere at holde taler rundt omkring i landet og mennesker er meget spændt på at høre dem.
Constitution day is an annual celebration of the first Danish constitution which was written on June 5, 1849. This year is the 160 year anniversary of Denmark´s constitution. On Constitution Day, it is a tradition for the Danish politicians to hold speeches throughout the country and people get very excited to hear them.
Jeg elsker alle blomsterne vi har i det danske forår....men jeg indrømmer at jeg også elsker at vi har 9 fridage fra den 1. april til den 1. juni!
I love all the flowers we have in the Danish springtime.....but I admit that I also love the fact that we have nine holidays from April 1 to June 1!

Gorgeous picture! We also have Ascension Day tomorrow as a holiday and most offices shut on Friday too - so whooppee! A long weekend.
Scandinavia is a good place to be in April-June as there are lots of holiday, or red days, as we call them.

True but...once this little string of holidays is over, there's nothing else until like Christmas I think! But then, danes do get 6 weeks of vacation, so that kind of makes up for it!
