Everywhere in Denmark we have Shetland Pony farms. I see them each time I drive down the road and I wondered why we have so many here. In America you usually see Shetlands in the circus or carnival---where parents can pay for their children to ride a pony. It makes me so sad to see them because the ponies are all tied to a pole and walk around and around....all day long.
This week I asked Mads if Denmark raises Shetlands to export them to America for the circus and carnival and he just laughed... "WHAT are you talking about?!" I explained to him about my experience with ponies in America and he shook his head and "ABSOLUTELY NOT. We raise them for children who want to learn to ride horses... they begin on the ponies until they are ready for the bigger horses....We do not export them to the circus!" I felt much better after that....
Kig...
On Wednesday I noticed a pony farm on the way to Videbæk.... I have driven past it many times before but on Wednesday, I saw something special...something so cute... Take a look!

Sweet photo!
On Thursday, I took the anklebiters to a Swedish farm where the lady had lots of Shetland ponies. It's a great way for kids to learn to ride. We also have Iceland horses here, which are also good for riding.
My son has been scared of horses, but this tiny Shetland called Rufus has changed his mind and he rode for a whole hours, bursting with pride!
Have I ever told you how much I am disturbed by horses? Their nostrils are the size of Ivory soap bars and when they run, they look like sacks of potatoes. I can't get past that. Even Shetland ponies...
When I see them I shout out (to my husband's endless amusement), "lookeee! Stubby ponieeeeees!"
