This week has been difficult.... for various reasons that I am not going to write about, but today when I stopped and thought about all the difficult things that Mads and I have faced, I realized that in the middle of all the difficulties, we have also had so many good things to be thankful for!!
1. Jeg fik min uddannelse godkendelse fra CIRIUS!
1. I got my education approval from CIRIUS!
2. My friend Patti is getting better and better each day since her surgery on Tuesday and we think that she will get to go home today!!
3. I get to see Jess, my family and my friends in Texas in less than 4 weeks!
4. I have the opportunity to experience the Danish spring every day and it makes me happy.
5. I had an IB meeting with my headmaster on Friday and before we started the meeting, he said he had "something personal to talk about with me." I could not imagine what it could be.....
My boss, the principal of Herning Gymnasium, gave a letter to me....a letter that he received on Thursday....a letter that MADE MY DAY! I have received so many special things as a teacher and as a principal in my 15 years---from students, parents and colleagues. In fact, I have a huge box upstairs filled with all those special things I have received... I brought them all with me to Denmark! And now I have one more thing for my box...
In the Danish gymnasium system, the teachers move with their classes from year 1 to year 2 to year 3 (which I think is the best thing for students!!). I have worked as a substitute since January for my students´ teacher who is on maternity leave (for 1 year). The normal thing is that the teacher will come back to her classes after her maternity leave.....
However, the students in one of my classes wrote a letter to the principal, asking him if they can "keep me". They talked about the way I challenge them and how I "draw them in" to the lessons with all the new methods I use that they are not used to. They asked to keep me all three years because of the way they trust me as a teacher and how they all look forward to coming to class! Now I have my first special thing for my box that is written in Danish!!
So.... although we have really tough weeks, it is so important that we STOP and REMEMBER the good things; otherwise the difficulties will take over our focus. Choose to focus on the spring....instead of the winter.
I'm going home today whether they want me to or not! :)
Oh that made me want to cry -the letter from your students!!! How wonderful is that?!! The photo of you in that gorgeous tree is great!! Is that a Japanese cherry tree?
Have a great day my friend- hope your weeks get better!!!
You are so right Kelli. Sometimes we're too occupied in all the bad things that we forget to say blessing for all the good things.
Oh man, it is AWESOME that your students appreciate what you do so much!!! And that the principal is backing them and you up. Wooooot!
Wow! How cool is that, that your students not only adore you so much, but that they'd actually DO something about it!! I got a little misty eyed!! You rock!
That is so awesome that they gave you that letter - the kind of stuff that makes you feel better about being in DK. Good vibes!
Kelli. I love your attitude...it is inspiring. What a great picture - I miss danish spring!
That is such a cute picture of you in the pretty tree! True spring pic. What a special thing to know that your students adore you. (Not that it surprises me) You found such a perfect and wonderful job!
That is so wonderful. You SHOULD be appreciated like this!
That's fantastic! And what a vote of confidence and appreciation from your students. :)
And what a gorgeous tree. I hope spring in Denmark is what you expected it to be.
I am the "anonymous" Brenda from Guelph who sometimes comments on Tressa's blog.
I just want to tell you that I look so forward to your blog because you always make me SMILE.
You have a most delightful attitude and your sharing it on your blog is truly a gift to many.
So ... I for one (of many I am sure), thank you!!!
Keep smiling and enjoying that spring. All the very best,
Well, this made me burst into tears.
This reminds me of what happened in Freedom Writers!!! :-D
How exciting for you... that is sweet... did you go & give all of your students a big hug... ahhh..
Adorable picture... hang in there chic... if you ever want to come up to fredrikstad to get away... just let me know!
That means so much coming from Danish kids. It's definitely one for the box. Congratulations!
Congrats, Kelli!!! I do believe a note from students to principal is the greatest gift. You must be quite a teacher:) What's your subject?
What a lovely letter! I know it makes you happy to be back into an educational setting.
