Denmark is an incredibly expensive place to live, but I have discovered things to do when you have visitors in Jutland that are not so expensive! (But that are really great examples of the diverse things we have in Jutland!)
Da mine Texas veninder kom til Herning denne måned, ville jeg at vise dem "min Danmark" men jeg ville ikke planlægge ting som koster dem så meget penge. Det synes jeg at jeg var lykkes! Hvis du har besøgender i Jylland, har jeg ideér til dig! (Undtagen Legoland---det er ikke så billigt, men det er værd det!)
When my friends from Texas came to Herning this month, I wanted to show them "my Denmark", but I did not want to plan things that would cost them much money. I think I was successful! If you have visitors in Jutland, I have some ideas for you! (Except for Legoland---it is not so cheap, but totally worth it!)
1. Den Gamle By i Århus / The Old City in Århus (Pris--100kr /$20 -april til december)
En "levende" museum af hvordan liv var i gammel Danmark! Godt til voksne eller små børn...teenagers er ikke så interesset at stå og læse de information skilter om historien! :o)
A living museum of how life was in old Denmark! Good for adults or little kids....teens are not as interested in reading the signs about the history! :o)

2. Det Nord Hav på jyllands vestkyst / The North Sea on the west coast of Jutland(Pris- GRATIS /FREE!)
Du kan gå for mange kilometre og besøge bunkers fra verdens anden krig. Du kan også kigge efter rav langs med stranden!
You can walk for many kilometers and visit the WW2 bunkers. And you can also look for amber along the beach!
3. Dom kirke i Viborg / Royal Cathedral in Viborg (Pris- GRATIS /FREE)
Vi har 10 dom kirker i Danmark og hver er forskellig fra andre. Jeg har besøgt 4 (men VIL besøge alle!) og de er så flotte!
We have 10 royal cathedrals in Denmark and each is so different from the others. I have visited 4 so far (but will see them all!!) and they are so beautiful!

4. Randers Regnskov /Randers Rain Forest (Pris- 150kr men VÆRD DET!!!/$30 but WORTH IT!) Vidste du at vi har en regnskov i Danmark?! Det er forbløffende! Dyr går og flyver omkring dig og de er dyr at du kan ikke se i en zoo!
Did you know we have a rainforest in Denmark? It is amazing! The animals walk and fly all around you and they are animals that you cannot see in a zoo!
5. Nørre Vosborg ....en af de mange smukke herregård i Danmark /

Vi har herregård overalt i Danmark (især i jylland). De er meget gamle og meget store gård huse som du kan stoppe og kigge ind. De fleste er for meget at tage med kun 1 billede! Koncerter og julemarkeder holdes i herregård....eller de er en perfekt sted at går igennem på en søndag eftermiddag.
We have manor houses all over Denmark (especially in Jutland). They are very old and very big houses which you can stop by and look in. Most of them are too big to capture in only 1 picture! Concerts and Christmas markets are held at the manor houses...or they are the perfect place to stop for a walk on a Sunday afternoon!
6. Daubjerg Kalkgruber i Daubjerg... (Pris 50 kr / $10)
En tur under jorden igennem en af midtjyllands kalk grubber. Hvis du er heldig når du besøger, vil Daubjergs "under jorden" ost butik være åben hvor de serverer ost og vin!
An underground tour through one of Midtjylland´s limestone mines. If you are lucky when you visit , Daubjerg´s underground cheese shop will be open where they serve cheese and wine!
7. Dollerup Bakker (syd for Viborg /south of Viborg) (Pris- GRATIS / FREE! )
Tag en tur omkring Danmarks næstdybeste sø som var lavet under istid. Dollerup Bakker er meget smuk og har mange cyklestier og gåendestier plus en hundeskov!
Take a walk around Denmark´s second deepest lake which was created during the ice age. Dollerup Bakker is so beautiful and has many bike and walking trails plus a dog forest!
8. Den tyske gravlund fra verdens anden krig (i Karup) /
The German cemetary from WW2 (in Karup) (Pris- GRATIS /FREE)
Mange tyskerne flyttede fra farlig tyskland under verdens anden krig og arbejdede i midtjylland. En speciel gravlund var lavet til dem ved en dansk gravlund i Karup. Det er meget smuk men at se gravene af de tyske børn var meget trist.
Many Germans moved from to escape the dangers of Germany during WW2 and worked in Midtjylland. A special cemetary was made for them alongside a Danish cemetary in Karup. It is very beautiful, but to see the graves of the German children was so sad.
Jeg vil gerne dele flere om jylland men jeg vil spare andre sted til næste gang! Lige nu har du 8 forskellige sted i jylland at besøge for kun 300kroner i alt! Dette er den bedste måde at lære om området..... kør! (og tage en tur-guide ligesom min svigermor med!)

Great post about all the cool things in DK that don't cost eight billion kroner.
I have visited approx one third of the places you have mentioned and enjoyed them immensely, and your write ups of the others are inspiring.
There are great distances between the free attractions in DK, and a car and/or bus train knowledge is important!
A picnic or packed lunch is a must too...it's easy to get to the free places, but not so easy to get away without spending fifty dollars on lunch!
In Viborg Cathedral you can (or could) climb right up to the top and put your head out through the roof to admire the view. I tried this once. What I didn't realise was that
a) Your head comes up right under the main bell, and
b) The time was exactly five seconds before 4pm.
Ouch.
This is a great blogpost. You've given me some good ideas for stuff to do with the kids this summer.
I always make sure to include the WW2 bunkers in my posts of Denmark...I never get tired of seeing them.
So far our plans for while we are in DK is to visit Farup and LegoLand. I have to get with Peter's mom to find out when to have the big meet-up.
