En Royal Samtale... A Royal Conversation

Kelli:
Hej Dronning Margrethe!
Hi Queen Margaret. I am so sad that I missed your visit to Herning on June 4th. I was in the US when you arrived!

Dronning/Queen:
It is OK, Kelli! I understand that your trip was planned because your daughter graduated. That is much more important than my visit!

Kelli:
We arrived home just in time for Denmark´s election day so I got the chance to learn so much about all of the "Royal Rules" recently.

Dronning/Queen:

Yes, our election day was a little strange this year. To sit at home, waiting on the citizens of Denmark to decide our future... We hoped for the best, but until the polling places closed, we were not sure what would happen next!

Kelli:

I was not totally sure about the election before the actual day, but my danish husband explained everything to me. He takes great care of me to make sure I know everything I need to know about my new home.

Dronning/Queen:
Jeg er stolt af din mand. Hvad fortalt han til dig?
I am so proud of your husband. What did he tell you?

Kelli:

The first thing was: Currently, Danish law says that if the royal family has a daughter first, followed by a son, the son will become king....and the girl will be skipped. The Danish Parliament has already voted to change the law so that a first-born girl can be queen, but the Constitution says that although the Parliament already voted, it is necessary for the Danish citizens to vote as well.

Dronning/Queen:
You are exactly right! I actually got to become queen because my parents only had three daughters! Do you know the other issue?

Kelli:

Of course! You had your 69th birthday in April and the Danish citizens had to vote if you can remain queen when you turn 70 or if it is necessary that you turn the throne over to Frederik.

Dronning/Queen:

Although you cannot vote in Denmark´s elections, can I ask you how you would have voted if you could?

Kelli:

Of course!
I COMPLETELY AGREE with how the Danish citizens voted! I vote "YES" to the first-born girl becoming queen! And I vote "YES" to you remaining queen as long as you are able!

Dronning/Queen:
Tak for det!!
Thank you for that!!

Kelli:

My mom saved this newspaper for me: it was in the USA papers in April and asked "Do we need royalty in the 21st century?" It was a great article and the more I learn about Denmark´s royal family, I say, "YES! We need royalty!" Your family represents Denmark so well and I am proud to live in a country with a royal family like yours!

haha... great post! And a friend gave me that same article before I left to visit Mac. Funny how friends/family make sure we see anything about Denmark in the news. :-)

An interview worthy of American television. Diane Sawyer can just move right over to make room for you :) What's next? A prime time special?

Interesting!"

I was shocked to hear that Denmark hasn't had a law stating that the first-born girl can be queen.. still - better late than never!!

What a delightful post!

Hell, we've gotta love the royal Danish family--they actually understand how cool it is to marry foreigners. :-D

Congratulations to your daughter!

I LOVE THIS POST!! The lovely Queen herself was just horse drawn carriage away from us, and it could not have been more cool! I will post my pics soon! I completely agree with you, I am a "royalist" too! ;) Long Live the Queen!

It must be wonderful to live in a country where the Queen has time to chat with her "constituents." OR what do you call yourselves?? Great post!
