Valgdag ... Election Day

Last Sunday I experienced my first Danish election. I was really shocked at it was held on a Sunday...and I was shocked to learn how similiar the process is in Denmark compared to the process in the US.

Trin 1/ Step 1:
Mads fik hans valgkort i posten.

Mads receives his election ballot in the mail. He is in "election table 4" (like precint in US) which is determined by where you live.

Trin 2/ Step 2:
I mindre byer, valger du i skolerne (ligesom i Texas).

We go to the polling place which for us is at the Herning Congresscenter. In the smaller towns, you vote in the schools (like in Texas).

Trin 3/Step 3:
Selvfølgelig ser jeg mange cykler udenfor valglokale!
Of course, I see many bikes parked outside the polling place!

Trin 4/Step 4:

Mads goes into the election box by passing through a little curtain. The election is not electronic....you use a pencil to write an X either for the party you choose or for a specific person.

Trin 5/ Step 5:
Valgkorte ligges i en stor affaldskurv....ligesom i Texas!!
The ballots are placed in a big trashcan....just like in Texas!!

The Danes were voting on 2 things Sunday---the first was "who will sit in the EU Parliament as representatives of Denmark" and the second was about the royal family.... and information about this one is coming tomorrow because I have lots to say about it! :o)

I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say about it! For once, LOL, I don't have an opinion, so I am hoping to hear some good cases :)

P.s: You do realize we can all send you flowers now??!!! (address on ballot card)

Thanks for this post on how similar things are to things here in the US...except for the mode of transportation!

We voted for the EU reps last weekend... in our case, the elections took place in our school cafeteria...

Can't wait to hear what you are voting about when it comes to the royalty!
