Den 4. juli 1776....Amerikas "Selvstændighed Dag"
July 4, 1776 .... America´s Independence Day
Jeg kan tænke af mange ord når jeg tænker på den 4. juli--
picnic, BBQ, fyrværkeri, venner, varm dag, søen, og masse "rød, hvid, og blå"!
There are many words that I associate with the 4th of July--
picnic, BBQ, fireworks, friends, a hot day, the lake, and LOTS of red, white, and blue!
Jeg havde lige flyttet til Danmark sidste 4. juli så vi fejrede kun lidt... men dette år vil jeg opleve den 4. juli "dansk-stil"! Siden 1912 har Danmark haft en stor 4. juli fest som heddede "Rebild Festival". Det er en venskab-fest med USA og Danmark og holdes på Rebild Bakker i nordjylland. Rebild Bakker er en af Danmarks mest-besøgt sted i hele land og på lørdag, kan jeg se det mig selv!
I had just moved to Denmark around last year´s 4th of July so we only celebrated a little...but this year, I will experience the 4th of July, DANISH STYLE! Since 1912 Denmark has had a big 4th of July party called "the Rebild Festival". It is a friendship-festival between the US and Denmark and is held in the Rebild Hills in Northern Jutland. Rebild Hills is one of the most visted places in all of Denmark and this Saturday, I get to experience it for myself.
Hvert år har de en berømt person fra USA og en berømt person fra Danmark giver "keynote taler" ... såsom Walt Disney (1961), Richard Nixon (1962), Walter Cronkite (1967), Pat Boone (1981), Dionne Warwick (1988), Richard Chamberlain (1990), and Janet Reno (1994). Dette år vil hovedtalen være afleveret af Amerikansk Janet Borge Crowle, datter af Victor Borge.
Each year they have a famous American and a famous Dane to give the keynote speeches....such as Walt Disney (1961), Richard Nixon (1962), Walter Cronkite (1967), Pat Boone (1981), Dionne Warwick (1988), Richard Chamberlain (1990), and Janet Reno (1994). This year´s keynote will be delivered by Janet Borge Crowle, daughter of Victor Borge.
Mads, Albert og jeg vil tage til Rebild Bakker på lørdag med mine svigerforældre. Vi har planlagt vores "picnic" menu og jeg har min oldemors quilt klar at tage med. Mads og jeg har også vores "Old Navy" 4. juli tshirts for 2009! Jeg er meget spændt om vores dag i Rebild Bakker så jeg kan fejre mit hjemlands selvstændighed i mit nye land.
Mads, Albert and I will head to Rebild Hills on Saturday with my inlaws. We have planned out our picnic menu and I have my great-grandmother´s quilt ready to take with us. Mads and I also have our Old Navy 2009 4th of July tshirts to wear! I am so excited about our day in Rebild Hills so I can celebrate my homeland´s independence in my home.

Sounds great! I don't think we have any special celebrations in Stockholm... although American type bars might host parties...
