I watched on television President Obama´s arrival in Denmark on Friday. And I listened to many people talk on TV (and write on their blogs and Facebook) about his trip, and I realized that the majority of the commentary was negative... so I started to think...
Jeg tror at Obama er bekymret om Amerikas økonomikskrisis. (selv om de Republikanske sagde at han ikke var siden han rejste til Danmark til Olympisk møde i stedet for bliver hjemme for at find løsning til krisis....)
I believe that Obama is very worried about America´s economic crisis. (although Republicans would want you to think that he was not since he flew to Denmark for the Olympics meeting instead of staying home to solve the crisis....)
Jeg tror også at Obama er meget bekymret om verdens miljø. (selv om mennesker sagde at han ikke er siden han bragte hans egen bil "The Beast" for at køre i København....) Han ønsker ikke disse ting...men det er nødvendigt....
I also believe that Obama is very worried about the world´s environment. (although people would want you to think that he was not since he had to bring his own car "The Beast" to transport him around Copenhagen....) He does not want these things...they are necessary....
Og jeg tror at Obama kan ikke vinde.... uanset hvad han gør.... Mennesker vil altid klage over hans beslutninger.And I believe that Obama cannot win....no matter what he does....People will always complain about his decisions.
Men jeg har ondt af Obama. Han er "for berømt" og kan ikke rejse til andre land uden "The Beast" fordi mennesker overalt i verden hader ham eller hader hans beslutninger og hans liv er ikke sikret. Det gøre mig trist. Han rejste til Danmark for at støtte Chicago, hans stat, med deres kamp at få 2016 Olympisk. (som kunne være en kæmpestor "stimulus" til USAs økonomisk!)
But I feel sorry for Obama. He is "too famous" and cannot even travel to other countries without "The Beast" because there are people all over the world who hate him and hate his decisions and his life is not safe. And that makes me sad. He traveled to Denmark to support Chicago, his state, in their fight to get the 2016 Olympics. (which could have been a huge "stimulus" to the US economy!)
Ja, lukkede vi Øresund bro og Storebælt bro i få timer men dette var hvordan DKs politet kunne beholde Obama sikert. Og ja, lukkede vi gader i centrum København fordi af sikkerhed og ja, havde alle TV kaneler "Obamas tur til Olympisk møde" i mange timer i stedet for vores normal shower. Men jeg var meget stolt af min præsident for hans beslutninger at kommer og støtter Chicagos kamp fordi han troede det var vigtigt. (Selv om han glemte min JIF!)
Yeah, we closed down Øresund and Storebælt bridges for a few hours, but that was one of the tactics the DK police need to keep Obama safe. And yes, we closed a few roads in downtown Copenhagen because of security, and yeah, all the tv channels seemed to have "Obama and his Olympic trip" coverage all day instead of our normal programs. But I was pretty darn proud of my president for his decision to come and support Chicago´s fight because he believed his attendance was important. (Even though he forgot my JIF!)

I was in Oslo when then-pres Clinton visited. I don't think there was any more or less security for that visit than this.
Amen sister! I don't believe that the guy can catch a break. The media standard remains the same...positive reporting simply doesn't sell.
I happen to believe that the man was trying to generate some excitement for a country that is in serious need of some good news! Not to mention cash! Great post- and I am sorry that he forgot the JIF! ;)
The sad part is, the conservatrons that lash out at Obama for visiting the IOC seem to conveniently forget that it is practice for heads of state to make or be present for final bids. They also forget that Bush hosted the IOC when they made their initial Chicago visit. It's diplomacy, and unfortunately people are so caught up in the 24-hour, news-cycle-generated partisan pap they forget that the President cannot afford to focus on a single issue. He, just like every other president before him, has a whole pile of issues to look into.
Sorry for the rant, but the partisan/media reaction to this really rubbed me the wrong way.
Any president would need huge security measures. I do agree with you that there are a lot of hatemongers and closet racists out there who want Obama to fail at any cost... Too sad.
I think you are so right. People really lose perspective on things, but the poor guy needs to be safe. I am pretty sure,though, that a jar of JIF could solve a world of conflict! :-) Guess he missed the memo, huh?
He's the president of the USA, what do people expect? The security goes with the job!!! Maybe people should get their heads out of the sand and start realizing that people in positions of power can't and will never be like you and me and it's not a bad thing. Obama has been slaughtered in the press from day one- everyone is looking for negative things to write because positive stuff doesn't sell....THAT is sad...
His attendance might have been a good idea for the Olympics, but because of it a lot of people couldn't get to their jobs in Copenhagen. Thousands of people commute across the Oresund Bridge every day - doctors, nurses, teachers, police, etc. THEY'RE jobs are very important too and if they can't make it to work to save lives/educate young minds, then I don't think it's worth it for a 4-hour celebrity appearance. Maybe for the climate conference - where major world-changing events are going to happen - but not for this.
I agree with you Kelli, people will decide whether or not they like a person and see the situation how they want to see it, to justify their opinion. I read an article that went into great detail about the economic impact of his trip...but the truth is, that IS his only choice. He cannot travel another way...
Obama, just like any other American, should have the right to make a trip for personal reasons as well as diplomatic ones. He is an exception - just as any world leader is. Regardless of who the president is, he should have the right to take a personal trip (especially if that trip also has diplomatic/economic incentive for our country) and because of his stature, this is the only safe way.
Well put, Kelli. The poor man is just damned, no matter what he does, but I for one am so proud of my country for electing him.

I totally agree! Although, I did object to cutting off THE artery between Sweden and Denmark. I was sending him all my love while he was here though.
I agree with everyone here. Sad, but true, if you don't like President obama, you won't find anything good in what he does. I lived in Denmark when Clinton came and everyone was pretty hapy about it. Sorry to hear that there was less enthusiasm this time around for our President.
