Ingen skole i dag.... No school today

Der er ingen lærer hos gymnasiet idag. Der er ingen elever hos gymnasiet idag. Men hvorfor?! Fordi i dag er Operations Dagsværk!

There are no teachers at work at the Gymnasium today. There are no students in classes at the Gymnasium today. But why? Because today is Operations Dagsværk (literal translation is "Day´s work")

http://www.od.dk/
(Der er dansk OG engelsk sider! /There are Danish AND English pages!)

Operations Dagsværk is a student-led organization which works together with young people all over Denmark on a project that helps the world´s poorest children. Each year OD has a new target area in the world that the students are working to help.

Du kan læse mere her : http://www.od.dk/projekt/zimbabwe

The gymnasiums in Denmark are not having classes today so that our students have the time to go out and work together on this year´s project...protecting the youth of Zimbabwe from political abuse. You can read more about the project here:
http://www.od.dk/projekt/zimbabwe (just choose English)

Since we do not have classes today, all the teaching staff from Herning Gymnasium got on a bus and went to Vingsted last night for our own day together today.

OD is such a new thing to me and I do not know much about it, so I am really excited to come back to school on Thursday and hear from my students about their day!

It's a great idea and teaches kids to care about other kids in other parts of the world by using their time to work and earn money for these kids...Enjoy your day off!!

Kelli, Thanks for sharing what's happening with your school. I read the link.. this is such a great project for students to participate in. Should be something American students participate in... or students all over the world.

Raising funds is such a cool idea - and giving the students a day off to do so. Brilliant!
