Friends around Denmark have been telling me for a while about an "American section" at Super Best grocery store, but they were only in the Copenhagen area (3 hours away) and Århus (1 hour away)..not in Herning. But on Tuesday evening Mads was at Super Best when he called me (I assumed he was calling because he forgot something on his list! LOL), but instead he told me some REALLY GREAT NEWS! Super Best in Herning nu has an American section!! We made plans to have a "date night" the next evening so I could check it out!

That was the good news..... but now, the not so good news....the prices.

Jeg har mange amerikanske produkter i kælder lige nu fordi min søster bragt mange ting i oktober og Holly bragt også ting til mig på hendes sidste tur..... Men hvis jeg bliver desperat og får en længsel til Milk Duds, ved jeg, at jeg kan sende min Viking til Super Best!! ;o)
I have lots of American products in the basement right now because my sister brought me lots of things when she came in October, and Holly brought lots back for me on her last trip, but now I know that if I get desperate or have a craving for Milk Duds, I can send my Viking to Super Best! They are ONLY four dollars, after all!! :o)

I'm thinking maybe SuperBest did this since their reputation has gotten so bad they need to get new customers in the store!
Maple syrup costs an arm and leg over here. We have a "luxery" grocery store in Oslo called Jacob's that carries a lot of American products--and will order if there's something you're desperate for. But the prices are SKY HIGH. I found the exact same organic peanut butter in Sweden for many, many, many kroner less and haven't been back.
Go for the chocolates... Muffins and brownies you can make from scratch! And you have real cheese so you don't need Velveeta.. right? ;-)

You sealed the deal. I am going to check out our bigger Super Best in Kalundborg today. They have a good import section with Turkish and Asian offerings so my fingers are crossed they have added Pace and Velveeta too. OMG *drool* I am already thinking of the hurtin' I could put on myself tonight!
Can't you find those products in Germany? If Danes cross the border to get drinks and other Danish Procut, you can as well go south to buy them.
By the way, soon a Bazar opens in Herning, same style as Bazar Vest in Århus and Bazar-Fyn in Odense. It was ment to be 200 m from our house but they decided to move it to Gullestrup. Can't way to start shopping there!!!
Lady Fi--- there is no cheese like Velveeta when you craving chips and QUESO! :o) But of course, then you need the Rotel tomatoes I import from the US too! LOL
And Diego, a few of these can be bought across the border, but not most. There are "varieties", but many are just not the same...
however, one day, I may learn to adapt! After I have lived here about 20 years! LOL

At least you know that it is available now - maybe you won't want it as much. Ha! But sometimes you just need to "throw reason to the wind" and go for it. It is only $$ or maybe I should say Kroner. Hope your Thursday is going great!
Oh my, I think I might just have to learn to eat what the Danes do or just go homemade.
I guess that's one good thing about being military (and I can only think of one or two things) we have the commissary where ever we are to get American food. BUT that doesn't always mean they have what you want. Even in the some parts of the states there are things you can't get everywhere else that you can in Texas. Yep, so my mom brings them to me when she visits. Must be something about us Texans.

At least they have in SuperBest in Århus, don't know abouit Herning.
I have found a lot of "replacement" foods here in Scandinavia and learned to bake pretty well myself that I don't REALLY miss many of these products but just KNOWING I can get hold of them if I just HAVE too, is a comfort and the few times I buy them it's worth the money...if I flew to America to get these things and then broke up the cost of the plane ticket (and kids plane ticket and Stig's) added to the costs of the products we buy over there, it would probably be just as expensive...so....it's worth it yes...hahahaha...Just miss the super sizes...
VELVEETA? You have VELVEETA? I am so jealous... We have an american section where I shop in Sweden..(no velveeta) every once in a while I will cave & buy something I can't get over here...
Bacon... priceless. I would also probably spend any amount of money for mayonnaise and good ice cream.
Shelly, you would love DK because we have such a huge pig industry that the bacon is GREAT!!! AND CHEAP!
and for some reason, Miracle Whip is a "normal" product in the Danish grocery store....
When we visited CPH a few weeks ago we were shocked by how many American products are available. I flipped out over the Cheerios! LOL! And I was SO happy to see HUGE bottles of Heinz ketchup, baked chips, Sunmaid raisins too. But what is up with the cereal selection? I love Musli but the Danes seem to be infatuated with their fiber filled cereals! LOL!
We're moving to DK next year and will be bringing a crate from the States. Other than brownie mixes, peanut butter, and Rotel is there anything else you would bring if you could?
Miracle Whip and mayonnaise aren't the same. I won't eat Miracle Whip.
Traveling mama...you are SO right about the cereal selection!! I have always had dry cereal as a snack food, but not anymore! LOL As far as what to bring... your spices that you cook with on a regular basis. Also I always bring in things like pecans (you can get walnuts here, but never saw pecans), Fiber one protein bars, special K cereal bars and crystal lite tea mixes...
all of those "prepackaged" things from the states that we get so used to...
Another thing. STICK DEODERANT! There is only roll on for women here! So if you like a stick, you need to bring it! And not to be too personal, but I also import Tampax Pearl tampons.. one of those personal things that I am not willing to switch! LOL
I import all my MAC makeup too because personal things like hair products and makeup are available here, but they are at LEAST double the price...
That is all I can think of as the for sures for now. but I will let you know if I think of others!
