Mærkeligt bjerg... Strange mountain

Nej, det er ikke et stort bjerg lavet af kokager..... Men hvad er det? Vi har dem OVERALT i skovene omkring Herning. Kan du gæt hvad mit bjerg er lavet af?!

Nope, it is not a mountain of cow poop....But what is it? We have these EVERYWHERE in the forests around Herning. Can you guess what my mystery mountain is made of?!

Wow - that's the biggest ant hill I*ve ever seen! In Sweden they are built of all the pine needles and stuff lying around in the woods. (I took a similar picture yesterday when I was out...)

Wow that's a giant ant-hill you found there, usually they aren't that big. It's made of pine needles.

Heck yes, they're all over the place here too!!! ANT HILLS!!!! Now, if you'd like to be like a Norwegian they suggest you take a stick, let the ants pee on it and then taste it....NASTY!!! I asked what the point of tasting ant pee was- if it was some sort of surival technique if you get lost in the woods and the answer was, No, we just want to try it...ugh...Vikings!!! ;-)

Is it sand to go on the roads in the winter?

You are too smart for me!! I was SO impressed the first time I saw these last spring.... the ants were ALL OVER the place, busy working! Now they are hiding inside for the winter. These giant "ant beds" (as we call them in Texas) are ALL OVER the forest and they are all at least this big! Some are as tall as the Viking!

The ant hills. Coming to think of it I'm glad they don't get this big in Texas, all crawling with fire ants.....yuck! At least the "midt jydske" ants don't sting.
