Uge 10...Week 10

Men hvorfor!?

Do you know where you will be during week 1o in 2010? (and do you even know when week 10 is?! LOL) I will be traveling to London during week 10 with 28 of my students where we will stay for the entire week. But why?!

In the Danish gymnasium every student goes on a study trip during during second year. It is an important part of their education, and where they travel is dependent upon which study line they follow....such as: mathematics, languages, social sciences, biology, or music. In American high schools students do not get to select a study line for themselves, but in Denmark, all students take classes within their individual study lines....so they are in classes they they actually CHOOSE!

The class that I am taking to London is a "social science/ English" group so their trip must be in an English speaking country and all the lessons I plan for us to do prior and during the trip must have a social science focus.

I am really excited about our trip and the lessons that I have already planned. I believe that a study trip is a really great way to show students the real world connections to their education! We will be traveling to London by ferry from Esberg (harbor town in southern Denmark) so we be on a ship many hours as we go to London and back.... quite a new experience for me! And I have only ONE COMPLAINT about the trip... the day we leave London to travel back is March 12...and since we are on the ship 18 hours, I will turn FORTY on A SHIP with 28 gymnasium students!

Rats - I was getting all excited mentally trying to work out week 10 because I am in London March 13-14...but that's the day after you leave. I was hoping I could suggest a meet for a few minutes but I guess not!

I love it! What a better way to feel "young" than to be with your students on your 40th birthday. You won't have time to be depressed. ha!

That trip sounds wonderful for the kids! The whole idea of students having a part in choosing the direction of their high school education based on interests -- fantastic!

What a landmark and fascinating way to reflect while celebrating a b-day!

You know though, sometimes those things make the day even MORE memorable. When I turned 21, I was at a Methodist church convention...but I was surrounded by all my friends (even if I couldn't participate in the ceremonial first legal drink). They all worked out this elaborate scheme and surprised me at midnight with a cake and everything. It was actually quite cool.

I love that part of Danish Gymnasium...you will have a wonderful time and I am sure that your birthday will be spectacular - 28 students and then Mads waiting at home to celebrate you...sounds like a winner to me :-)

Is there a particular reason you are going on the ferry instead of flying?

The week that you guys will be in London, WE'LL be giving benchmark exams. :-(

The trip actually sounds like a blast - and I'm sure you will be the perfect teacher for all those young minds!!

The bday thing - we'll have to deal with that somehow!
