Since we do not have a Christmas tree this year, we needed a little Christmas pick-me-up to get us in the Christmas spirit! What better place than Den Gamle By ("The old city") in Århus. I recommend Den Gamle By to everyone that is in Denmark during the Christmas season! You can walk through the old streets and see the old houses and shops all decorated for Christmas. It is so cosy! (just be ready for lots of people, so go with a patient attitude!) They have games for the kids and lots of things to get you in the Christmas spirit!
De har musik.... They have music....
De har nisser...... They have nisser (Danish version of elves!)
De har mange gode ting at spise...
They have lots of good things to eat....
"old days" sausages, frikadeller sandwiches, pancakes, candy, and ......
and of course they have Æbleskiver and Glögg!

even the old houses in Den Gamle By representer the very typical Danish Christmas table... with duck, brown potatoes, and red cabbage!
So if you are a long way from your family during Christmas, go to Den Gamle By! You will leave from there with a really good feeling inside!

Oh, it all looks so delightful and festive!
We are actually hoping to go there next weekend! I can't wait! I have heard a lot of good things about it, and this just got me more excited! ;)
That's lovely Kelli !!
"Christmas Spirit" really is a tangible, warm feeling, isn't it.
Thank you for the lovely posts all year, I come in to my little gallery and sit down with my coffee and muffin every morning and enjoy all the wonderful posts from you and your expat friends - Tressa, Corinne and yourself mostly - plus my niece of course in Japan.
I think I am either too shy, too old=fashioned or whatever to start one myself.
HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME IN TEXAS !!!
Merry Christmas Kelli & Mads from Brenda (via Guelph) - actually living out in the country in Primrose - north of Orangeville, Ontario
I want to go there when I'm in Denmark for Christmas.....
Thats is so cool! I so want to go and visit now. That table with all that food looks so yummy!
That looks soooo cozy and yummy. I cannot believe that I have never been there (except virtually by watching Julekalender "Jul i den gamle by" back in the day).
Happy Holidays!!
Hej Kelli
Oh this makes me miss Danish Christmases....it's so cozy and hygge. I am going to be introducing all of our friends to Æbleskiver at our party on Saturday. Friday I am going to be one crazy Æbleskiver-making girl! There are about 20 people coming, so I figure I need to make a ton!
I think we're going to try to take my parents there while they are here. I'd go for the aebleskiver!
I remember checking out that place in the tourist books you gave us as a place to go...although it was not Christmas time then! Looks even more magical!
