Et gammelt digt.... An old poem

As I took pictures of our walk in the forest yesterday, I thought about this poem that we had to memorize in junior high and was shocked at how much of it I still remembered. I believe that Robert Frost would agree with me that yesterday's pictures go really well with his words.....

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

It's scary - but I've also thought of posting that poem with my snowy pictures! I do love Frost, and this poem that is about winter, but also about death...

Hey girl- I've never heard that poem before but loved it! And the gorgeous photo fit so well as you said! How are you adjusting to the snow? Not much of this in Texas- is it still new to you or are you getting use to it? Albert looks like he's having fun!!!

I love that special light you get in Denmark in winter from the sun being so low in the horizon. Gives everything that awesome orange glow. Great pics. Happy New Year.

I have several books of Frost's poetry; no one had the ability to turn a phrase like he did or cram as many syllables into a finite space as he did. Love the pictures.

Hi Kelli,

I am so glad you are well after your scary experience with altitude.

The poem is lovely. We learned Robert Service in school as "the bard of the north" !! I have always loved the last stanza of "Piney Wood":

"Oh Silence has a secret voice
That claims the soul for portal
And those who hear it may rejoice
Since they are more than mortal
So sitting in my Piney Wood
When soft the owl is winging
As still as Druid stone I brood ...
For Hark ! The "stars" are singing!
