International Society

There was an interesting story in the Herning Folkeblad newspaper last Saturday. It was a story about a new group that has been started in the Herning, Ikast, and Brande Kommunes (counties) called "International Society" which is sponsored by the Herning Chamber of Commerce. Mads and I are on the board of this group whose task is to create opportunities for foreigners and Danes to come together in order to build social networks for the new residents of these three counties. We are incredibly excited that we are able to participate in the International Society and believe that our work with this group is going to help people to become integrated better and more quickly.

International Society's kickoff event is a Hockey Match between Herning and Esberg on Friday, February 26. We have invited all foreigners from this area to come and watch the match (and receive a beer/soda plus a sandwich) for only 50kroner and in Denmark, a night out for only 50 kroner is quite the bargain! We hope that lots of folks will come! International Society will plan social events each month for foreigners and Danes and we will also work with the Immigration Service at the Kommune to help its employees understand how to best help these new residents in our community. We both feel so fortunate that we get to participate in the International Society!

That's awesome - I can't think of a better couple to be ambassadors for DK as they reach out to foreigners.

Look at you!!! Too darn cool. We were part of a mentor program that paired new danes with 'old' danes...well, that's the translation. We did some really great activities. let me know if you need ideas.
