Mads and I use Ryan air lots to fly to the UK because their flights are so cheap! They don't offer snacks or coffee, but they are great for short trips because you only have carry-on bags (since checking your bags costs more!) We flew to London last April for 600kroner....We flew to Scotland last October for 500kroner and I am taking Jess to London next month for 600 kroner... BUT.... Ryan air has a new policy for people like us who use them for their cheap airfare.....
If you need to tinkle while you are in the air with Ryan Air, you will need to make sure you have 1€ in your pocket.... because it now costs 1€ to use the airplane potty!
(Actually now I am GLAD they don't serve coffee....so I can hold it all the way to the UK!)

Oh my goodness! Well, you know some of the shopping centers here charge you like 10kr to go to the bathroom!! They will try and squeeze all the money out of you they can-especially if they give you something cheap.
How is RyanAir otherwise? I've seen their cheap prices from Norway also- where do you stay in London? Are hotels expensive?
That does it!
Somebody in the news told me yesterday that some flight company started charging people for their carry-on luggage as well...
I love Southwest Airlines - no weird charging you for carry-on luggage or checked in luggage or visits on the toilets.....
....even though they manage keep their flights cheap (and they seem to have hired all the happy and funny people in the skies;o))
But sometimes things just become too cheap....(I feel sorry for the people that has frequent toilet visits due to medical problems)
I agree Annemette...SW is always going to be the best. In fact I have watched their employee training program videos and it shows why their people are so happy...they have such great philosophies from the management to the entry level guys!
And Amy-- Ryan Air is really not bad.. .WAY BETTER planes than Cimber (the other cheap airline)...theirs sound like they are going lose parts when you fly! and they are super cramped, but Ryan is pretty spacious. And London hotels are not that bad...as long as you do not stay at Westminster Station. You can stay within "zone 1" of the underground which is still "downtown" for about $150 a night (including breakfast)... (I am sure there are cheaper ones but to me, that is a fair price and I want nice and clean! LOL)
I remember when I was young that some public restrooms charged 10 cents to get into a stall, so women would just hold the door until the next woman walked in. I wonder if something like that will happen on the plane.
Have they started that already? We are flying to Dublin in the morning... Just wont drink to much before hand...
are you in Arhus?
Tressa- the news tonight said it started today... so not sure if you will get to tinkle for free or not!
I am about 50minutes west of Århus. Why, are you coming to DK?????
Okay I'm about 10 days behind on blog reading but all caught up now on yours! Forgive me for not commenting - you know I love you! :)
What if you need to take a dump? Does that cost more? Do you pay by the pound?
It was only a matter of time. They 'floated' the idea about a year or so ago, but there were some logistical problems with reconfiguring the door to either accept swipe cards or coins. They obviously found a way to make it work. Maybe they should offer a buy ten tokens get ten free deal...they seem to hawk everything from smokeless cigarettes (gag) to lottery tickets on the flights. But, I agree, quite spacious and really, not that bad when it comes to flights. Oh, how I wish I had a low cost flight option from Chicago. Yes, officially in withdrawl.
I read they might be charging for the loo... so unfair on families with small kids that just. can't. hold. it!
Shelly... as soon as I hit "publish" on this blog, I thought, "Holmes is going to ask about going #2 and if it costs extra!" Yep, I know you well! :o)
At least they are only doing it on short flights.
Perhaps here in the US people would think twice about leaving a bathroom dirty if we had to pay 25-cents to use it. I HATE using public bathrooms. I remember having to pay to use the bathrooms in France, and they were clean!
I think Americans would actually just trash out the bathroom more if they had to pay for it. They'd say, "Well, if I am having to pay for this...then whoever is pocketing the money can earn it."
That's just the way some Americans think...I hate it when people here don't clean up after themeselves because they say, "Oh, somebody gets paid to do that." Like they won't clear out their dressing room, return their shopping cart (which here we DON'T have to pay for or rent at the store, I know in some place in Europe you pay a deposit)...
On a side note, I fly easyjet a lot when I'm in Europe. They are pretty cheap too. I think they fly out of Copenhagen maybe...but I'm not sure.
Oh...and I love the new look of your page!
Ugh. That's inhuman and horrible. I would never fly with an airline that did that, no matter what the cost.
I'm atypical though. The airline abuses have gotten so bad that you practically have to drag me onto a plane these days, particularly because of the TSA.
I've had my crotch whacked with the wand so many times I want to cry just thinking about it, and the breast groping really really really upsets me. I also refuse to go through the new "naked" machines that show you naked and leak radiation. :(
