Jeg lovede at fortælle om mine elevers præsentationer og jeg MÅ sige... Jeg var MEGET imponeret om dem! De tog opgaven og "løbede med det!" De fik 1 side af debat (det var ikke deres valg)-- INTEGRATION eller HJEMMESENDE og deres opgave var at fortælle om HVORFOR deres argumentation var rigtig -- for flygtninger OG for Danmark....

I promised to tell about my students' presentations and I HAVE to say... I was SO impressed with them! They took the task and "ran with it"! The students received 1 side of the debate (and did not have a choice in the matter)-- INTEGRATION or REPATRIATION and their task was to tell WHY their side was the best thing--for the refugees AND for Denmark!
Mine elever som fik "hjemmesende" havde lidt problem for at begynde deres arbjede. De kunne ikke finde løsning som var god for Danmark OG for flygtninger. Men jeg pressede dem.... og opmuntrede dem at tænke STØRRE end lige Danmarks grænse.... Og det gjorde de.
My students who drew "Repatriation" had a little trouble getting started. They could not find a solution that was truly best for BOTH Denmark and the refugee. But I pushed them.... and encouraged them to think BIGGER than just the borders of Denmark... and that is just what they did!
Præsentationerne var thought-provoking (hvordan siger det på dansk??) og viste at de kunne se det større billede. Den hoved argumentation for hjemmesende var om Danmarks investering i verden. (Og jeg fik "gåse-bumps" så de forklarede....)
The presentations were so thought-provoking and showed that they really could see the bigger picture. The main argument for repatriation was related to Denmark's investment in the world. (and in fact, I had goosebumps as they explained.)

Deres hjemmesende plan (i min omskrivning)
Their repatriation plan (paraphrased)
1. Skift hvordan vi modtager flygtninger i Danmark. Stede ligesom Sandholmlejren har brug for en EFTERSYN. Mennesker som arbejde der har brug for igangvarende træning om flygtninger og kulturerne af flygtninger.
1. Change how we receive refugees in Denmark. Places like Sandholmlejren (the largest asylum center in Denmark) need an OVERHAUL! And the people who work there need ongoing training about refugees and the cultures of the refugees.
2. Integration SKAL blive del af hjemmesende plan! Flygtningene SKAL blive del af detalmindelige danske samfund så snart som muligt!
2. Integration MUST be a part of the repatriation plan! The refugees MUST be a part of the normal Danish society as soon as possible!
3. Danskerne skal "mentor" flygtningene så de lærer om "vestlig verden" (hvis de kommer ikke fra vesten, selvfølgelig!) Mentoring skal blive ligesom FCMs akademi program er for fodboldspiller fra Nigeria.
3. Danes should mentor refugees as they learn about "the western world" (if they don't come from the west, of course!) The mentoring should be modeled after FCM's (the soccer club in Herning) Akademi program for the soccer players we recruit from Nigeria.
4. Danmark laver en investering i flygtningene (i stedet for bruger penge at "holde" dem i Sandholmlejren i uger, måneder eller år.....)så når de er klar for at gå tilbage til deres hjemmeland, er de mere uddannet og kan hjælpe deres land blive bedre og sikker. (Fx: ren vand teknologi, hygiejne, uddannelse, det engelske sprog, osv.....)
4. Denmark will make an investment in the refugees (instead of using all the funds to "keep" them in the Asylum center for weeks, months or even years...) so when they are ready to go back to their home country, they are more educated and can actually help their homeland to become better...and safer. (For example-- clean water technology, hygiene, education, the English language, etc.....)

Danmark tilbyder flygtingene 100,000dkk når de går tilbage, men mine elever (som er DANSKE!) TROR at det er Danmarks ansvar for at give dem mere end lige penge...... og jeg er enig med dem.
As most of you know, Denmark offers 100,000 kroner to refugees who are going back home, but my students (who are DANES!!) BELIEVE that it is Denmark's responsibility to give them more than just money.... and I agree.
2R, klassen som lavede dette projekt er en samfundsfag studieretninglinje så jeg er ganske interresant at se hvad må ske i Danmarks fremtid efter disse elever blive færdig med deres uddannelse....
2R, the class that I did this project with is a Social Studies line, so I am quite interested to see what might happen in Denmark's future after my students graduate....
