This week I made 30 deposits into the account of Seattle, Washington, USA. 30 deposits which I believe will return very nice dividends to all those who have invested in them. 30 deposits that I will have the privilege of going to withdraw from Seattle in two months and bring back to reinvest
in Herning, Denmark.
Before we left for Seattle I assigned all thirty students the task of creating a blog in which they can have an electronic journal of their all their adventures in the USA! Plus it gives me a place to dialogue with them about what they are experiencing. Their assignment was to write AT LEAST one blog a week for the eight weeks they are away; however several of them have already posted MULTIPLE entries and they have only been in Seattle for 6.75 days!
I have to share two comments that have appeared on multiple blog entries this week.......
I know I have heard these two things at least a dozen times from my students....
1) EVERYTHING IS SO BIG IN THE US! The malls, the servings, the savings, the cars, the malls, the malls, the malls....
and
2) AMERICANS ARE SO FRIENDLY! (and several are quite proud of their ability to engage in small talk with random strangers now! Maybe we can start a ripple of change throughout Danish society when they get back! 31 have better odds of making people smile and talk to you than just 1 person does! Right?!)

I love their comments! Especially about the friendly people - I hope your students enjoy their time in Seattle - I know I would love to spend about a month there because of so much to see & do.
Had to laugh at them confirming the stereotype that everything is big in the US. It will be wonderful to have them come back and be friendly to everyone too!
What a great way to communicate with your students and for them to express themselves! Sounds like a fun assignment to grade as well!
