Only in the south.....

The Southern United States is known for so many things....most related to history and many are things of which I am ashamed. However there is also a LOT of good that comes from living in a life in the south, a lot of special things that define who we are....and unless you are from there, you really don't quite understand it.

In fact people always ask me "WHY ON EARTH DO YOU LIVE IN SUCH A QUIET PLACE AS HERNING?! Why not Ã…rhus or Copenhagen?!" And truly, I can say that life in Herning is about as close to the kind of environment we Southern folks love about the place we call home....

I took this picture last month as we walked through the airport in Savannah, Georgia because I thought it really ILLUSTRATES what life in the Southern U.S. is really like..... Because I can guarantee you that you would NOT see something like this in L.A.X. Airport or J.F.K. or any other northern location. In fact the northerners (Yanks, as we fondly call them) would most likely CRACK UP laughing and shake their heads as they saw this sight.

The best part of this picture is not that the airport OFFERS Rocking Chairs all throughout the airport..... it is that FOLKS ARE ACTUALLY SITTING IN THEM!

We southerners love the slowness of the southern life style; the kind that includes porch swings and neighbors hanging out in the yard long after the sun goes down. Even in the big metropolises like Dallas and Houston, you will STILL find folks living a life like this picture illustrates... And I absolutely love it.

Especially because even though we don't have rocking chairs or porch swings in Herning (Wait, maybe I could start a new trend??), we do have this same kind of mentality....

Without a porch swing how can you have Porch Night in Herning! Would be fun to have porch night again. Love ya!

Philadelphia Intl Airport has had rocking chairs since 1999. http://www.phl.org/news/060606.html

Yes, this is definitely a good thing about the Southern lifestyle. I much prefer sleepy, small town living in Europe as well as the U.S. Y'all have something to teach us Yanks.

Sorry to say it, but JFK, Philly, and Logan all have rocking chairs in the airport. . . but they don't have chicken fried steak and peach cobbler, so the South is still special in my mind.
