This picture says it all.
I took it from my bedroom window at 10:45pm last night.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Danish summer and all the LIGHT that we are blessed with. You feel so energized and so alive! (Even though we have to VELCRO our bedroom curtains closed on all 4 sides so we can sleep past 4am!)
DISLIKE:
Just as much as the summer light energizes, the winter darkness sucks that energy right out of you. In the winter it is not uncommon that the sun comes out (on days that we actually HAVE sun) between 8 and 830 and by 330, it is on its way somewhere else. Never before I have really understood this whole concept of latitude... well, I understood it on paper, but living in DK you get the first-hand lessons.
So the lesson is that we have to do like Henry David Thoreau said and SUCK THE MARROW OUT OF LIFE during the Danish summer so we have some reserves when those dark depressing winter days hit us! Maybe we should all make a photo album of all the light so we can look at it when it is dark and remember that better days are coming!

Have you ever been to a movie in Denmark? The first time Mads took me, I could not believe this thing that I actually LIKE NOW...
You don't just come in a sit where you want... you are either assigned a seat or you go online before you get there and pick your seat! That way even if you come just as the film is starting, you know you have a great seat that you already chose....instead of being stuck down front with all the 10 year olds! We always select what we call the "LOVE SEATS"... 2 seats connected without an arm-rest between them. Not sure if they are the teenagers' make-out seats or what, but we old folks just like the fact that we can sit close together!
DISLIKE:
As much as I love picking my own seat in the theatre, I dislike that the "good seats" (ie: in the middle, toward the back) cost more than the less desirable seats. It is not much more...something like 10kr ($2), but still...... it's the principle! :-)

Love the light of Scandinavian summers!
The seats over here all cost the same.
I have yet to actually view a movie in a theater here, but I have heard about this assigned seating!
Hmmm, never noticed about paying any difference in seats the theaters here, but we do get assigned seating which is cool...we hardly go to the movies though, I´m a cheapy who would rather buy the movie on DVD, get something good for dinner and some snacks and drinks and sit in the comfort of home with my big 42" TV and watch a movie for a fraction of the cost of taking all 5 of us to the movies...or even 2 of us. I´m so boring...
And the light issue...totally understand, and it is like you say, we re-energize ourselves in the summer and that is the ONLY way we survive the winters...so when it is a crappy summer we only feel half charged and then the winter is harder...but if it is a gorgeous summer then let it snow let it snow let it snow!!!
I do miss the extra daylight! However I would trade that daylight to see lightning bugs in the summer.
But one thing Denmark doesn't have with movies....alamo drafthouse...where u can order dinner, snacks and drinks and they bring it to you or a gold theater with gourmet meals and big cushy reclining seats!

I love the long daylight hours too. Unfortunately, our bedroom has 2 walls of windows, and only one wall is covered at the moment. My sleeping mask has never come in so handy! I also love Danish movie theaters, at first I wasn't too sure about the whole system, but now I couldn't imagine it any other way. Plus I find the popcorn here 100 times better than back home!
