Running with the Big Dogs

All of my friends will tell you that I am not a big dog person. I love them in small doses and most often when Albert is not around because he is even less of a fan than I am. :-)  However during my last few visits to Jess I have fallen in love with three of the biggest, sweetest dogs that I have ever met... and yes, they are very B-I-G!

Jess and Jeff have 3 dogs-- Cash (the white pit mix) belonged to Jess, and Aiko (the blue heeler mix) belonged to Jeff, so when they got together that meant they were a house of 2 dogs, but then their neighbor's Pit Bull had puppies and along came Eva.

But no matter how much I love these three, this post is not about my affections for them or how much I love to spoil them when I am in town. It is, instead, about the fact that Jess has proven that Pit Bulls are only mean and awful animals when they are raised by mean and awful people. She has raised Cash and Eva with love and kindness and because of that, you only know they have Pit Bull blood in them because of their appearance--NOT because of their behavior. They are absolutely enjoyable to be around! I am so proud of Jess as a pet owner. She does such a great job setting boundaries with them and at the same time, loving them like I love Albert!

Good dog owner = good mom :-)

It is still worth exercising extreme caution. Especially around babies and small children who behave in unpredictable manners. We can say that dogs from the dangerous lists are often only as good as their owners, but this surely means a dog is only as good as he is treated, and babies and children cannot be expected to behave as well as the sagest dog owner. I suspect an inner voice would tell most of us, multiple dogs especially from a breed prone to 'giving as good as they get' and small children...red flag!

They are the best ever. ;) Even though stinkers at times. Oh and Aiko is not a blue heeler silly, she's half Aussie, half Border Collie, and ALL old lady. Lol. We love you and miss you already, Momo.
Love, Jess

Have always meant the same thing Kelli- it´s not the dog it´s the owner and obviously Jess is the picture of what an owner should be like and has proof in her well behaved "Killer" dogs...

But....you don´t like big dogs???? :-( The gang here just sank their tails....but being the good babies they are they will still give you a kiss if you come by sometime. :-) And there are plenty of little ones here for you now ;-)

I am dogless for the first time in 30 years. I don't think it will last too long.

It's always the owners at fault, isn't it.

Pit bulls were once family dogs in the UK.

I agree. Breeds get a bad rep due to awful owners and bad breeding. Glad your bunch of grand-puppies behaved for MOMO.

But with all dogs, I am sure Jess will slowly introduce the baby to the dogs. :)

Lisa, I will be there for the Corrie's arrival home, so I will be supervising that as well! :-)

I still can't believe that both of these sweet guys got hit. I am so sad for your daughter. What a horrible loss!
