Memories of Mayberry

No matter how many iProducts I have or how many hours I work in a week, I DO yearn for slower and simpler times. I love progress and I love technology, but as we are about to bring Corrie Ann into this world, I do wish for her that we could slow things down just a bit...... just enough so that she (and we) don't miss out on the small things.

One of the big topics in Romney's platform is his promise to restore us to the America we used to be.... the America we want to be. But I am afraid that whether I am a Democrat or a Republican, I have to call BULLSHIT on that one.

The only people who can restore that kind of lifestyle and pace and philosophy to the individual person's life is the individual person. We have to make the decisions for ourselves to STOP and sit on the porch on a regular basis..... to wave (and even SPEAK) to our neighbors..... to know their names and their stories.......to turn down a dirt road that might cause us a little extra time to get to our destination, but that might reveal something amazing in nature to us..... These are not things that a president can give us. These are things that we have to CHOOSE TO TAKE for ourselves and our families.

So Romney needs another angle.
As a grandmother-to-be in the next five weeks, I am choosing this old lifestyle for me and my family and I don't have to wait for November 6, 2012 to get it.

Sometimes it feels like this world is spinning faster
Than it did in the old days
So naturally we have more natural disasters
From the strain of a fast pace

Sunday was the day of rest
Now its one more day for progress
And we can't slow down
Cause more is best
It's all an endless process

Well I miss Mayberry
Sitting on the porch drinking ice cold Cherry --- Coke
Where everything is black & white
Picking on a Six String
Where people pass by and you call them by their first name
Watching the clouds roll by
bye bye

Sometimes I can hear this old earth shouting
Through the trees as the wind blows
Thats when I climb up here on this mountain
To look through God's window

Now I can't fly
But I've got two feet
To get me high up here
Above the noise and city streets
My worries disappear

Well I miss Mayberry
Sitting on the porch drinking ice cold Cherry --- Coke
Where everything is black & white
Picking on a Six String
Where people pass by and you call them by their first name
Watching the clouds roll by
bye bye

Sometimes I dream I'm driving down an old dirt road
Not even listed on the map
I pass a dad and son carrying a fishing pole
But I always wake up everytime I try to turn back

Well I miss Mayberry
Sitting on the porch drinking ice cold Cherry Coke
Where everything is black & white
Picking on a Six String
Where people pass by and you call them by their first name
Watching the clouds roll by
bye bye

Amen to that! We all choose the pace at which we live our lives.
