We watch a lot of movies....some that I get to choose and some that Mads chooses, which is due to the fact that we definitely have different tastes from one another. Sometimes I suffer through his choices (The Big Lebowski) and sometimes he suffers through mine (pretty much anything with Hugh Grant), but sometimes we find something that we both can sit and honestly ENJOY.
Today we were at a basketball game, watching the Herning Hurricanes play and I was talking with Mads about the different types of plays that teams run....
I made a kind of a joking reference to those plays like "DELILAH" and "LINDA" made famous by high school basketball Coach Ken Carter, but I quickly found out that Mads had no idea what I was talking about.
So the only thing to do at that point was rent "Coach Carter" on iTunes when we got home. It is one of my all-time favorite "this movie is based on real life events" films because although it is about my FAVORITE SPORT, it is about so much more.
Mads, of course, loved it, and I, of course, became re-inspired as I am each time I see it.
If you want to feel good after seeing a movie,
watch "Coach Carter".
If you want to see what it looks like to turn bad into great, watch"Coach Carter".
If you want to understand how COACHES can be some of the greatest TEACHERS in our public schools today,
watch "Coach Carter".
You will not be disappointed.
One of the greatest scenes in the movie is the moment when a reference is made to a very famous poem/quote by Marianne Williamsom... it's something that all of us should take with us in our daily lives.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
Movies like this remind me why I get up and go to work each day and call myself a teacher.
And quotes like this remind me to be GREAT.
And to inspire those around me to be GREAT as well.

Inspiration can come from many places, including poetry. But in what sense is the quote you gave a poem? If that's a poem, any paragraph of text can be classified as a poem. And of what use is the term "poem" then?
I like the quote in one sense, though: It is a direct gainsaying of the Jante Lov!
Still, we could do without the references to a magic Sky-Daddy.
Quote/Poem.
Potato/Po-tah-to
And I agree. It definitely tells Jante to GET OUT OF THE WAY.
And for me, the references to God are keepers. To each his own.
That really is a powerful quote! Sounds like my kind of film!
(And no, I will never read that book - Fifty shades of...! ;-)
