an American Heart

This morning on my way to work my Spotify (set of course to my playlist called "Kelli's Country Tunes") started off with Faith Hill's newest release called "American Heart".
Yes, I love Faith Hill and I love the song's beat, but I really LISTENED to the lyrics this morning and can tell you that in that 12 kilometer drive, I played the song three times, back to back.....

It really stirred something inside me and made me realize that Faith is singing about me and about the 2 most important women in my life.... my mom and Jess.... and eventually, when Corrie turns out just a little bit like us, this will be about her as well. 4 generations of American Hearts. And I am sure there are American families who feel just the same way as I did this morning.......

I know that if you are NOT an American, this may sound a bit cheesy or even a little exaggerated, but I assure you, it is neither of those things. It is something real and something ALMOST unexplainable, although I do think Faith Hill has done a pretty darned great job trying.

No matter where I live or what CRAP life throws at me and the women in my life, I can attest to the fact that we are strong and we are unbreakable. And I am confident that part of that strength can be traced back to the fact that we do indeed have AMERICAN HEARTS.

As I listened to Faith sing over and over this morning, I honestly got to work feeling a little "like I'd been to church".
Silly?
Maybe.
Inspiring?
You better believe it.
So if you need a little inspiration today, I encourage you to have a listen......
She’s up before the sun, on the run

Another dollar, another day, another cup of coffee
Thank you Lord for giving me one more
She still leans on her dreams but it seems
Sometimes she’s the only one who still believes
That life is hard, so she takes it on
With an American Heart
And it beats like a drum down in New Orleans
Sings like a Motown melody
It dreams like California
Bigger than the Texas sky
It bleeds
It scars
But it shines when times get hard
And you can’t break an American heart
From the small town Friday night lights
To the Broadway neon burning up bright
We’re all the same and it’s in our veins
A spirit that you can’t keep down
A fire inside that’ll never burn out
If you are the owner of
An American Heart
‘Cause it beats like a drum down in New Orleans
Sings like a Motown melody
It dreams like California
Bigger than the Texas sky
It bleeds
It scars
But it shines when times get hard
And you can’t break an American heart
An American heart

I love that when a song just hits home and you play it over and over again! Good song. I'm not a big country fan (yes, even as a 4th generation Dallasite), but I do appreciate that country artists still use their voice to SAY SOMETHING or give a message of some sort. I'm so tired of the nothing shallowness of lyrics in so much of pop music today. Anyway...that's another top for another day.
